I know it sounds crazy, but as wealth disparity gets worse and most of the money are concentrated in the hands of the 1%, it might eventually get to a point where the "rich" minority gets ostracized by the "poor" majority.

Or does the rich wield too much power and sway for that to ever happen?

If right now, you don't look at multimillionaires with contempt, you're part of the problem.

People can already be judgemental about your wealth, but many of those same people judging you would like to change places with you, so it doesnt really hold up in some ways.

That was what the French Revolution was about.

Most people probably do not look at rich people fondly at this point. But they are so insulated from all the consequences of their actions that it doesn't really matter anyways. If they feel bad about public opinion towards them, they can even just create echo chambers of simps for them like Elon Musk did on twitter.

The people who get rich off the backs of other people's labor deserve to be looked down upon.

Isn't this already the general sentiment of the population? Of course you have your exceptions, but I think most people already have a disdain for the rich.

I always feel the current situation is that people are jealous and annoyed, but not actually "looking down" on the rich. As someone pointed out earlier, those same people would love to trade places with the rich.

I'm talking about getting to a point whereby it is taboo to be rich and no one wants to be associated with having wealth. More similar to a dystopian sci-fi society.

Common sense has shown to be absolutely wrong when it comes to most things, so yeah it would make sense that a citation is needed.

Not really. Communism wants a classless society, which is more ideal than practical.

I'm referring to a society where class still exists, but no one voluntarily wants to be in the upper class. The same way how no one wants to be in a category that's considered "taboo" by today's standards.

It depends. If you are talking about The Communist Manifesto communism, then yes. If you are talking about The Soviet Union/China, then no.

That's why nothing will change until the culture around accruing wealth changes. People value material things and having wealth far too much in our society. So even though most people probably do have disdain for the rich, that doesn't really mean a whole lot when many of them would be the same exact way if they had the same fortune and luck.

Not a chance. Bourgeois propaganda is far too ubiquitous and pervasive for a significant number of people to be detuned from consumerism and materialism.

If I was poor I wouldn't see myself in any position to be looking down on anyone. And would probably better utilize my time, thoughts and energy on far more productive things.

Exactly. The entire topic is ridiculous. What would there be to look down on, exactly? Most of what people dislike about those who also happen to be rich are due to personality or actual actions/morals, which isn't necessarily about wealth. But nobody is going to actually look down on anyone else just because they have money lol

It is, though? The majority of people who say snarky things online about wealthy people are a VERY small minority. As has been stated, nobody's going to turn down the opportunity to be wealthy if it's offered (within reason, of course.)

It's too the point that what's left of the middle class is being looked down upon for "living comfortable".

There are very few that look up to the rich, they just want to be one of them.
