That's understandable. It's a scary thing. I was terrified of going under but I recently had to have emergency surgery and the only reason I didn't back out is because they told me it would be harder/impossible to fix down the line. There wasn't enough time to deliberate about it, so I just had to bear down and go with it. If I had time to think about it, I would've been too scared to go through with it. But it went fine and everything is healing nicely. I feel silly about that level of fear I had.

Also, fwiw, like a dozen people in my family had gallbladder surgery and it went well every time.

Anxiety is a bitch, for sure. That doesn't mean you are, though. Anxiety hits us how it hits us; it's not our fault or a sign of us being weak. The panic of the lead-up to an event is always worse than the event itself, and it sucks how hard it is to convince ourselves of that, no matter how many times we might go through the process.

It doesn't always make it easier, but I try to keep in mind the memory of how relieved I felt in the aftermath of past events.

Something that has often helped is the realization that I have the autonomy to leave any situation I'm in (at least up until I'm sedated, in the case of surgery); that I'm an adult with agency. You can reschedule. There's no shame in it, and you don't owe it to anyone to be there until you're ready to see it through.

TC, you definitely need to get your gallbladder removed ASAP.

I was scared a little bit too, hell I ended up waiting another 4 hours because my doctor had an emergency surgery she had to do.

I waited like a total of 7 hours before I finally had my surgery.

Trust me, you'll want it out. I had severe gallbladder attacks many times before having it out.

It's scary so I don't blame you but a gallbladder surgery isn't really something you can ignore. I never had gallbladder surgery but I know people that have and every one of theirs has been a success.

I'm going to be completely honest with you. Speaking as someone who has had Gallbladder removal surgery, its a ridiculously easy procedure and the recovery time is non-existent. The only downside is you are left with scars from the surgery that don't go away fully.

I remember when I had to get some surgery, I was able to get some anti-anxiety medicine to take the day of.

Maybe that is something to look into

They put you under and you feel nothing for anything major. These are medical pros... just go or you will regret it later.

If it's elective - well - take some time to think and do what you feel works best.

For your health please have the surgery done asap, many other folks have had it done before you, so it has now become a routine surgery where you are back to normal in very little time. Here is some info to help relieve your stress,

gallbladder surgery

I was quite scared of my surgery (double lung transplant) done on Dec.4, now 6 months later I am almost back to where I was before the surgery and in another 6 months I should be back to normal.

I wish you all the best knowing that you will be glad that you had the surgery, and will be back to normal in just a couple of weeks, good luck!

I've been there, I've gone through about 2 major surgeries and a few day surgeries and it's always terrifying, but you can do it, TC. I won't be silly and say something stupid like "I did it, so you should be able to" so instead, let me say this; TC, when you're in that preperation room, stripping naked to put the robe on, then laying on that bed with maybe an IV in your arm or maybe nothing at all as you get wheeled down to the surgery area, I want you do this, mentally start thinking about what you want to do after this is done, cling to that thought alone, for me, during my Kidney transplant, my mind was empty, I wasn't afraid because my thoughts were unfocused on the situation at hand, instead they were focused on pointless generic things I wanted to do like play this game I was waiting for or eating some Taco Bell as soon as I'm out of the hospital, this was back when Taco Bell was sorta actually food and had flavor rather than moldy dog meat.

Sorry for rambling, anyway long story short, leave the rest to your body while your mind drifts elsewhere only coming back to the present when they cover you with the warm blanket and make you start counting down from 10. In fact, let's do that here. Mr. TC. Please count backwards from 10 for me.

Not really. A person who needed surgery in that slot couldnt. A surgeon, anesthesiologist, and nurses needed to be put on the schedule, who could have been seeing other patients or actually home with their families if they were on call. Medical coders negotiating with insurance companies about coverage. The planning that went into the survey. They arent just waiting around waiting for people to show up. Sure theres a bit of flexibility for complications, but that really doesnt factor into people canceling completely.
