Sanji had some great moments in Wano. Im only 17 episodes from caught up now.

and I was basically right about luffy. What a reveal

on Whole Cake Island now. only watched like the first 15 episodes of this arc but its definitely a fun ride so far!

Big Mom giving me some major Disney villain vibes. i love how they introduced her with a song... lol

also, she can snatch people's souls. wtf! O_o

and i like how we're given more of Sanji's past. seriously, his family are a bunch of assholes!

Luffy can be accused of a lot of things but not having character is not something I thought I would see since it's usually his impulses and desires that move a lot of the plot.

well well. i have caught up to the anime, episode 1090. started the journey 12/27/22, and in just over a year, i went through 1090 episodes (sorta, went through one pace as much as possible)

i am reading it now; my coworker is ahead of me and has been hyping me up throughout my journey, so figured i'd catch up to discuss manga too.

there's a colored manga which is nice. gonna be sad to have to read it normal, as i find it difficult to follow wtf going on in manga

Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation just dropped on Netflix, and I highly recommend you watch it.

It's an adaptation of a one shot manga that Oda did in 1994.

Oh damn, the Pudding reveal surprised me more than I would have thought. This arc is fucking brutal for the Straw Hats, I dont think theyve ever taken this many consistent Ls back to back before.

Hes still my least favorite Straw Hat tho.

I wish I had more time to binge watch, but with my job and life shit lately Ive only had time for a couple episodes here and there lately.

Hoping I can power through the rest of Whole Cake quickly tho, then its just what, Reverire and Wano then Im caught up?

Ive heard a lot of people say One Pace is the way to go.

The pacing def isnt great, but I just skip through the obvious recaps and shit when they start to get out of hand.

Fishman Island was the only one that super felt like a slog to get through for me. Still the worst arc in the series so far IMO

Big eater. Heavy sleeper. Kind of an asshole at times. Defeats people by sheer willpower.
Only now he's also messianic. He's Neo. He's the Chosen One.

Other anime are all ripping off a lot of his traits tho..

Finally finished Fishman Island. Man, was that a chore to get through.

Gonna watch movie Gold tomorrow, then continue on with the next arc.

Nah, Luffy's always had a strong morale compass and personality that separates him from being "square."

He has a super selfless type of selfishness that compels him to help people and stick up for the oppressed. Unlike other shonen protags, I would trust Luffy with my life if the situation arose.

I remember watching one of the movies in theaters with a bunch of friends years ago before I really knew anything about One Piece -- I think it was Stampede? Even though I had no context for what was going on, I remember thinking, "Oh, One Piece might actually be really good." I remember liking it a lot.

For my actual watchthrough, I'm hitting the movies when the wiki says they should take place, so I've only seen Strong World thus far, and it was enjoyable enough. It was just a standard shonen filler movie, though.

From what I understand, the movies should take place like this:
Strong World: after Thriller Bark
Z: after Fishman Island
Gold: after episode 750
Stampede: after episode 877
Red: after episode 1030

The only spoilers should probably just be whether or not you've watched up to that point. Like watching Strong World before Thriller Bark would spoil Brook's existence, but that's about it.

I'd argue Red after Wano due to a certain thing

So I could probably watch all of them up to at least Gold where I'm at though then, right?

And Stampede after I finish Whole Cake?

I just started the movies because I'm jonesing for the dub to get caught up.

I started with Strong World, and liked it. I watched Z yesterday, and liked it too, but it reminded me of this topic because Sanji is the most problematic as he could possibly be...

Maybe I'll wait to watch it till Whole Cake is done then. Sanji's actually been pretty decent in this arc, I'll need a reminder of how much I hate him afterwards lol.

his character is improved with the next few arcs! you learn about him and his past and motivations, and things just make more sense.

Brook's great in this arc. Glad he's finally gotten some cool moments to shine, I feel like he hasn't gotten as many awesome moments as the rest of the crew. I do like Brook a lot though.

I liked that part! The part I didnt like was when the genetic modifications kicked in mid fight

Red was cool but yea I wasn't caught up so was like "wtf am I looking at" in the final fight lol

Whole Cake's great, but it's definitely taking its time.

I dont mind it too much though, this arc has been pretty bat shit crazy. Given everybody involved some really cool moments. Especially Brook, he's really been a highlight of this arc, glad to see him finally get some super badass moments.

Sanji's also the best he's ever been, but that's a pretty low bar tbh. Still, excluding his past as a character, he's actually been pretty cool this arc. >_>

Luffy jumping out of the cake with an army of feral hims was also probably a top-tier in the whole series moment.

Yeah I just finished 865 and I've watched pretty much all of Wano with my wife before she passed (she almost got to Gear 5)

Had a weird experience with One Piece. My wife watched it a boat load and I didn't really pay much attention until Wano. I did watch all of Marineford with her cause that was REALLY good, but when they moved to Wano and the animation style changed I was like... alright, cool, I'll watch that.

Then I decided to try to catch up before she passed. I got into the early 800's before she passed and I watched all of Wano with her. So now I have maybe... I think like 40 episodes to go to be caught up?
