Just got an email from HiDive that they're ceasing operations in Germany and I won't have access to their library starting from Jan 2024

That sucks. I always say not to pirate what you can watch legally, but if they take away the only legal way to watch those shows in your region, then...

The problem with sailing the seas is that there's a whole legal industry here based around going after those who pirate and demanding huge sums of money from them, if not worse

Things seem to work completely differently in Germany, where breaking copyright law can carry a sentence of up to three years in jail, alongside a large fine and trial costs.

Watched the Revue Starlight Movie

So damn good!

I know, right!? The TV series was already a masterpiece worthy of being in my top 5 favorite anime of all time, but the movie was on a whole other level and elevated Revue Starlight from my top 5 to my undisputed #1 favorite. My favorite revue was the Maya/Claudine one, but they were all amazing.

God yes. I was lucky enough to be able to watch the movie in a theater during its limited run, and the Hikari/Mahiru revue was by far the one that was most enhanced by the theater surround sound. During the chase scene, it sounded almost like Mahiru was right behind me and it was scary as hell.

Overall a very nice end to the series, though I do wish for more.

I would love to see more from the franchise, like maybe a spin-off focused on one or a couple of the schools from the mobile game. But I think the story of the main Seisho cast ended so well that I hope they don't continue it.

Siegfeld would definitely be my pick to get their own spin-off. They could potentially even do 2 seasons, S1 for the original 5 girls and then S2 working in the new batch of 5 girls that they added to the game last year. A mix of both Siegfeld and Rinmeikan could also work, since Shiori's older sister Fumi transferred from Siegfeld to Rinmeikan and could easily be the main thread connecting the two schools in the story.

I have second Thanksgiving to go to shortly. We always have one at my grandparents' house then my parents' house.

I watched Made in Abyss S1 and thought it was fairly solid. It was a good, interesting adventure series. After that I watched the third movie. Didn't care for it, though given it's ultra high rating on MAL I'm probably fairly alone in this.

I just thought it felt super rushed and it got confusing in parts. It felt like maybe it should've been a full season rather than a movie. I only vaguely understood what Bondrewd was trying to do with the "cartridges" (though maybe I just zoned out during Nanachi's infodump about them), and they dropped a bunch of other info rapidly like the white whistles being made from someone dying for you, the curse also having a "blessing" component, and so on.

Also Bondrewd can move his consciousness due to some artifact he has but he also has X and Y artifact that can do this and that and etc. and all of a sudden he's having a DBZ fight with Reg. The Prushka stuff, while disturbing and grotesque, really had no emotional effect on me because there was only such a short time with her.

Overall I'll still watch season 2 but I'm probably going to have to have some of that stuff explained to me.

Interesting. The movie made me cry.

For example, I know Made In Abyss is on HiDive and is very well-liked, but I could never watch it because of how gory it is.

Lupin is awesome, I would recommend what Calwings did though and start from part 4 and watch it from that point on. And if you really like it, then go back and watch the old ones. I would also recommend dub in general for the series, but I may be biased because my intro to Lupin was the old dubbed episodes airing on Adult Swim in the early 00s.

If we're talking about the Lupin dub, then keep in mind that part 3 isn't dubbed at all and part 2's dub (the one that aired on Adult Swim in the early 00's) is incomplete, so you'd have to switch to subbed eventually if you want to watch the entire franchise. The modern parts 4-6 are fully dubbed though (because they aired on Toonami and that's how I watched them) and IMO those dubs are pretty good.

In addition to what ellis123 said about No Game No Life, Ya Boy Kongming could also technically be considered a reverse isekai. But its not trashy at all, and it's not much of a power fantasy either.

Ye, I thought of mentioning Konming as well but beyond being reverse isekai it really lacks essentially anything that people think of when they say "isekai power fantasy trash." It's only vaguely a power fantasy (there's no way you can convince me that Zhuge's trick to get people to not leave isn't essentially just power fantasy for something that isn't "hit things with stick") but it's about as far from trashy as you can get.
