I forgot that show existed until Youtube recommended me that clip from it for some reason.

I get that "bullied kid brings a gun to school" clip a bunch for some reason.

I'm honestly surprised there hasn't been a live action Static Shock movie yet.

There have been several topics on CE about Static Shock lately. Maybe YouTube is recommending the videos more now? I know some videos randomly gain 100k+ views, years later because of YouTube mass recommending it to people

I'm one of those people who got recommended static shock videos too. I never watched this show but had no idea it was dealing with themes this adult. Its important for kids to know

Yea the algos seem to be recommending those clips a lot. Maybe watching The Flash trailer put me into the DC comics algo.

There were a few standout shows of the era known for handling that kind of thing. Another one that gets mentioned a lot is Hey Arnold.

I actually did grow up with that one though did not watch it enough to remember any hard hitting episodes its been too long.

helga on the couch is a high light dealing with helga and her abusive home life

her father is emotionally and verbally abusive

her mother is an alcoholic

and both her parents treat her like crap because she is not as smart as her big sister

ironically helga is actually a genius smarter than her sister just she dont showcase it do to her trauma

I think the recent DC universe online expansion pack starring static shock has brought the character back into the spotlight.

Me too, and this one. Is been weird lately.

I remember this episode. The whole point was to bring attention to the racism/prejudice issues. Even my dumbass 13 year old self got this.

Static Shock was so good. One of my favorite episodes was where Static lost his powers for the day (cuz of a solar flare or something) and Ritchie had to help him out by making gizmos so the villains don't realize he lost his powers.

I grew up with Hey Arnold and that show was great. It hit home a lot for me. Hellas situation was awful I can understand why she acts the way she does.

Had it in my Resident Evil topic with people saying how crazy it is that Jill picked up a railgun, same guys wouldn't blink twice if Leon did it.

I can't rewatch that. This happened to me in real life and it still hurts. Someone I don't care about and would watch burn in hell still have an impact me today. How is that possible.

Static Shock was a great show, though I thought it was meh when they revealed Ritchie had superpowers the whole time too. I thought it was more cool for him to just be smart and capable on his own.

I remember Static being introduced in Young Justice, but I haven't seen the newer stuff so I don't know if they ever did any thing with him. Old Static was super awesome in that one Justice League episode, though.

That episode where Virgil went back in time and thought he managed to keep his mom from dying...Man, that really hurt

Did you forget that in the later seasons Richie ended up becoming a bang baby too? He didn't gain super strength or anything but a super brain and called himself Gear, Static had a third friend She-Bang and she only appeared like 3 times

They wanted Richie to be more involved, so they created a storyline where he inhaled the residual gas on Virgil's clothes after the Big Bang. He was sort of a late bloomer, slowly developing his superpowers over the years. He gained super-intelligence, so he created a bunch of gadgets to help fight crime.

I always did like that superpower origin. Just a big fuckin' explosion of toxic, mutagenic gas giving a bunch of random people superpowers.

I don't remember the later seasons very well. I might have not even watched them.

Edit: Actually no I do remember that he called himself Gear at one point. I just forgot that it's because he became a Bang Baby too.
