Sigh. It's always jumping on me and annoying me, sometimes it jumps on my nuts when I'm on the couch watching tv. I wasn't in the mood today so gave it a push/shove off me and she lost it. She didn't outright call it animal abuse but she was saying how it's not nice and it won't learn anything from me doing that.

I said it's a personal space thing and she said "it's a dog", which is why I feel comfortable pushing it in the first place. It didn't yelp, it didn't care, it kept running around the room without a care in the world and I'm sure itl jump on me again tomorrow.

People who view their animals the same way as children or think everyone has to love them equally, I don't get it.

I mean, have you ever talked to her about not wanting her dog jumping on you or did you just randomly decide to shove her dog off the couch?

She's seen it jump on me in the past and as I winced in pain once from sore nuts she just had this "oh that cheeky dog of mine" attitude. Basically she doesn't view it as an issue at all

Like I'd understand if pushing it off me resulted in it getting hurt or its tail going between it's legs, it didn't give a fuck. I guess the push was pretty soft but the fact I did it at all really triggered her.

It's more she'd prefer I'd try reasoning with or something, or just let do it's thing. She's always going on about the mental health and intelligence of dogs and all I see and experience is this maniac animal being a little shit

Some people really put their animals on very weird pedestals. My wife does the same exact thing with our cat. When the cat come to sit on her lap then all of a sudden my wife's needs and plans are secondary and the cat takes precedent. If she wants to get up then she has to negotiate with the cat to get off her lap before she can move. Whereas when the cat sits on my lap the cat is only there for my pleasure. As soon as I want to move, I just move and I'm a monster for not considering the cat's feelings first.

I mean my dog has stepped on my nuts before but I wouldnt shove her. Its not like she knew what she was doing.

depending on how hard you shoved the dog is my reaction to this. Dogs are pretty tough so a light shove probably wouldnt do much. If you shoved the dog with force thats way too much.

I don't think what you did was wrong. If anything she's in the wrong. She needs to train her dog. Yes they get excited and stuff but they shouldn't be jumping on people. My dogs only jump up when asked or told. It's not hard to teach them to not jump.

Yeah, I think it was soft, like I said it didn't moan or yelp or make any noise at all, but I obviously had an annoyed face while doing it and I think just something other than complete worship of her beloved dog got to her

Depends how hard you went on the dog. I remember a boyfriend of my moms doing that to my dog and I wanted to hit him. A regular, gentle push is fine.

I wouldn't do it in a situation where I wasn't in my own home. I'm essentially looking after it when she's at work

Dog needs to be trained to stop jumping up on people.

I love dogs, but pushing them off of you is the ONLY way they're going to learn to stop. What else are you supposed to do? Sit it down and have a talk?

Well, start telling her please get/keep your dog off me if she is in the room and doesnt want you to touch it. It sounds like you need to have a conversation, not just well I take it, because she doesnt fix it or since she doesnt think its a problem, I have to push it off me.
You can also ask how shed like you to redirect the dog, after explaining that you really dislike it and no longer want to just let it jump on you.
While I agree she shouldve noticed it has been annoying to you for awhile and have done something, you still need to try to respect that it IS her pet, that while she needs to be responsible for it, it is also up to her HOW to control it. If she refuses to do anything or allow you to remove the dog, then theres a bigger problem, but it sounds like you just need to have a talk.

Okay that sounds messed up dude.

But to the main point. You can't let a animal jump on you, then one day push it because it does that. You should have told your mate to make sure the dog doesn't do that. You are in the wrong here.

My cats are trained (as much as you can train cats, but they do respond to it) to stop doing whatever when you snap at them. Its a pretty decent rate of obedience, too. I have told my roomies and SOs that if they do something bad, please snap at them first, and then remove them from doing whatever if needed.
It took my SO a long time to get in that habit, he would make the tskkk noise at them and be upset that they didnt listen. And since the snaps werent reinforced when they were getting caught for things, the effect of the snaps went downhill, and they werent listening as well to anything. So basically he was undoing my training by not enforcing it. This isnt an issue if its occasionally done wrong by friends or something, but when its my partner living in the same house who also has authority on dealing with my pets, it has to be dealt with on the same page.
thats why I say check with her how shed like it to be handled, maybe she has an effective way that isnt pushing/shoving the dog that she wants you to use that respects the dogs mental health or whatever.
