Who do you side with?

A mum-to-be has revealed her 25 gender reveal cupcakes were knocked onto the floor by the bakers dog but they are still demanding payment. According to the 22-year-old expectant mother she was left disappointed after the box of sweet treats was sent plummeting before a party she was due to hold over the Easter weekend for family and friends.

The baker still wants her to pay the 25 they'd agreed upon prior to collection, but she doesn't think she should.

A few days before the Saturday event, she reached out to a local baker to make an order of 12 cupcakes "with pink and blue icing on top, and pink icing in the middle". When she went round on Friday evening to pick them up, however, disaster struck.

the Mirror reports the fed-up woman recalled: "I drove to her apartment and knocked on the door. She greeted me there with the box of cupcakes and they looked amazing.

"They were exactly how I imagined them and I thanked her for them. She gave me the box, but just as she did, her large pet dog came running up to me, barking, and jumped at me, knocking the box of cupcakes all over the floor."

The baker apologised before shutting the dog inside, explaining that he just gets excited by visitors and wouldn't have meant her any harm.

At first, she didn't realise how much damage had been done to the cupcakes, as the box had landed upside down.

Upon further inspection, however, she saw how "the icing had smashed all over the box". Some of the cakes had even fallen out on the ground.

She continued: "The baker looked horrified as I understand she spent a few hours making them for me. She apologised and said she could remake them for free, but they wouldn't be ready until Sunday.

"I said, unfortunately, I'm expecting my guests tomorrow and Sunday is no good, as I already had other plans. I explained I wouldn't be paying for these cupcakes as they were inedible and ruined by her dog. We agreed payment upon receiving the goods, and since I never received them, I wouldn't be paying."

The baker went on to argue however that she should still pay, given that she'd been left out of pocket after buying the ingredients. She refused, and headed off without the cupcakes, but now feels guilty and wonders whether or not she did the right thing.

Why are these so irritable to people? The premise is a little hokey but what's the harm of getting everyone together to celebrate your upcoming birth, even if the reason for it isn't that big a deal.

I never thought I'd be asking this because I find them a little odd as well but people treat them like...I dunno...people who claim "YouTuber" as a career.

It's on the baker. If i'm at a restaurant and the server is coming to the table with my food, and they trip and drop it on the floor, I wouldn't expect them to just say "sorry" and give me the bill anyway without replacing it.

It's a pretty dumb move in general not putting the dog up when a customer is coming to pick up a food item, you have no idea if that person likes dogs, is terrified of them, that's bad practice in itself. She knows her dog, she knows it is likely to jump on visitors. That's on her.

I'm glad you called me out on it. After letting your words stew for a bit, I realised deep down I wasn't really annoyed at gender reveal parties and was just parroting the sentiments I've seen on reddit & YouTube because I was under the impression that almost everyone thinks it's stupid. So yeah.

Domino's doesn't hold it against you if you screw up your pizza on the way home. They guarantee it since otherwise it'd be their own driver taking the liability (they also comp you for pickup for the same reason).

Too bad their pizza sucks...

Gender reveal parties have gotten somewhat notorious since people tend to make them into flashy spectacles that wind up backfiring in spectacular and destructive fashion but that isn't necessarily endemic to the concept (you could just as easily have an over-the-top birthday party go off the rails and have a similar outcome).

If you have a baby shower, don't have a gender reveal party. No need to double dip.

And there's no real payoff, unless the Dad show obvious disappointment when it's reveled to be a girl.

This. She even says that her dog gets excited by visitors. If you know you have a large dog that's going to run up to people, maybe don't leave him out when a customer is coming for a pickup.

Yes. There's no payoff to anyone attending other than the parents.

And it's something that a phone call would also reveal. No need to have a 2nd party where you expect more gifts. Have you baby shower then call it a day till the kid is born.

So could birthday parties. Or weddings. Bar mitzvahs. Anything, really. People want to celebrate a life moment, why are we shaming that? Because 1 out of every 100,000 people goes to far with it like pretty much anything else?

Ive never even seen gifts at a gender reveal party, but that's besides the point. The payoff is for the parents, quote obviously, but it's also for their family and friends to celebrate a.major.life moment. The gender is often the first thing you learn about a person you're going to raise for the rest of your life, it's a pretty big deal. Even before parties, it was a big deal to learn the gender, and shaming people for wanting to celebrate that and share it with their loved ones is bizarre.
