"Gender reveals" are a complete sham.

It's also the reverse of what the original parties were. The gender reveal was as much of a surprise to the parents as to the guests. A friend of the expecting couple would be the only one who had read the results, and they were responsible for purchasing the reveal cake.

It some how changed to the parents already knowing the sex of the child when they threw the party, which pretty much defeats the purpose and just comes off as narcissistic.

Thats certain parents. You can have the doctor give you an envelope, and give the envelope to the baker. Some people also have a friend in charge of it Som if you want to do things like party poppers or balloons

I think it's the concept of a party in general that upsets them. Conjures up thoughts of how they're never invited to any.

I'm 45 years old and have 2 kids. I'm not "triggered" over anything.

I also think it's dumb to have huge family parties for your kid once they're older than 6. That's when they start school and it should transition to a kiddie party.

You could always do both. Or combine them

I feel you need to "know your audience" when it comes to who you invite to a party, based on what the party is going to be.

If you're going to have a party that caters to a dozen 5-8 year olds, just invite the kids and their parents. Maybe the grandparents. But please don't invite me and my 14 and 17 year old kids. I sound like a curmudgeon, but he last thing I want to do with 4 hours in the middle of a Saturday is watch a dozen kids that aren't mine do fingerpaint and dance to "Baby Shark" while both of my kids look at me with that "I wish I was anywhere by here" look.

Idk I never really had an issues growing up combining both parties. My family was a decent size with people of all ages. So, even when I was younger and had friends over, older family members came and talked to other family members. And just enjoyed everyone spending time together. Ive also gone to the younger ones parties when I was older, and talked to people I havent seen in a while, and just enjoyed spending time with family Ive never seen it as a big deal. Plus, when I was younger and having parties, my cousins and friends could all stay over and spend the night. So, Idk

I guess it's still really fresh for me because I was JUST at a 1st birthday party (my wife's cousin's kid) and the hosts did NOTHING to cater to any of the guest that didn't have young kids with them.

Which part do you doubt? That I'm 45 with two teenage kids? Or that I don't get "triggered"?

If it's the 2nd one, I really don't. I have things I don't like, of course. But I don't rage over them. I just express that I don't like them. Like I'm doing here.

It's not like I go to gender revel parties and flip over the tables or anything. I just hang out, have a drink or two, eat whatever stupid pink and blue cupcake or candy they hand out, and go home knowing I just wasted 4 hours of my weekend.

That seems like more fault of the host rather than the party itself Ive gone to plenty of first birthdays where the host has stuff for everyone. And pays attention to the guest and stuff

Why go if you feel the time will be wasted? Idk about others, but I just like spending time with certain friends and family So, if anything, its just a good time to catch up with everyone And have fun at a little get together

I have as well, no doubt. But there really is nothing worse than a bad kiddie party.

I'd honestly rather have (and then to enjoy) a "no reason" family gathering that is more informal than one where there's some sort of made up structure to it that only caters to half the party.

Maybe I'm just not being invited to the right parties? Lol.

Sure Which is why its up to the host to make it enjoyable for everyone At least, thats what my family and friends did

Maybe it really is the parties youre going to. I dont really see why it makes much difference whether its informal or a get together structured around a specific thing (like baby showers/gender reveal, birthday, etc) The only real difference is usually gifts and decorations Other than that, its still a gathering or friends and family In the end, I just go to be around the people I care about and enjoy their company

I think the problem is that they have 2 teenage children. If it was just younger kids they could join in the activities geared towards kids, if they were adults they could enjoy the gathering of friends and family, but as teenagers it is their sworn duty to have no fun and make sure everyone around them knows it.
