A win for freedom of speech is a win for freedom of speech. Disney voiced opposition to DeSantis' policies, and he responded by trying to punish them. The "free speech" party doesn't care if it's speech they don't like.

I might agree if Disney actually gave a shit about free speech, but it's really just Disney striking a win for its' profit line. Disney would be happy to help suppress free speech if it meant they could make a nickel more. It's kind of funny to watch a dweeb like DeSantis lose in this way, but Disney isn't exactly worth cheering for either.

Which is why we cheer for this specific outcome instead of picking a favourite entity to cheer for regardless of what's happening. One can be happy about this while still being critical of Disney, say, stripping all pro-LGBTQ content from any of their media distributed in Russia or China.

Yeah these clauses arent actually that uncommon, and yes its understood that they mean currently living at the time the agreement is made or nobody would adhere to them.

This is Disney though, if they have to they'll just somehow push the date further back just like they always do with copyright law.

They did, though The clause said, death of the last survivor
of the descendants of King Charles Ill, King of England living as of the date of this Declaration.

So, if this was written before the 2 year old was born, then they dont count, I guess But if it was written afterwards, then it does That said, they could find a way to get a new one later on, as well

Also, contracts are used in whatever way they can be used. Implied meaning can and will work in certain cases. People are always looking for loopholes Whether thats good or not is another story

Sure, but they wouldn't see that influence pay off for 21 years, and they got outsmarted by a cartoon rat, I really don't think they're smart enough to pull off assassinating the entire royal family, which would pull us into a pointless war with our allies if they were somehow able to do that, so I don't really see them able to influence this in any meaningful way.

DeSantis is a real piece of shit, his selection process for finding his wife from what I heard on John Oliver's show was to take possible dates to a restaurant and gush repeatedly about Thai food but call it Thigh food over and over, if any of those dates dared to correct him he would eliminate them from having a future relationship.

You have to be a completely egotistical chauvinist pig to have this policy. So even those that believe in what DeSantis says still could find him a jackass based on that alone.

nah that's you bud

A royal lives clause is a contract clause which provides that a certain right must be exercised within (usually) the lifetime plus 21 years of the last living descendant of a monarch who happens to be alive at the time when the contract is made.

In an attempt to mitigate the perceived harshness of the common law rule, and to maximise the possible length of time for which trusts in particular could subsist, lawyers began to draft so-called royal lives clauses. Royal lives were chosen because (a) it was assumed that being affluent, at least one or two members of the family could be assumed to live a reasonably long period of time, and (b) being royalty, it would be reasonably easy to calculate the lives of the descendants. In practice, a dead monarch was usually chosen so as to maximise the possibility of a grandchild or great-grandchild who would be outside of the immediate royal family having recently been born

so, in perpetuity, since it's the last living descendant of King Charles the Third, which is the current king

not if the current descendants die, no, it's if there is no descendants left.
