Since Ash's time as the protagonist is nearly over, just wanted to know what you guys thought were his best moment from the show.

There's a good 25 years worth of content to pick from!

I bump this because it can be interesting even though I don't have anything that comes to mind

Like, Ash is a very....Ash. Like, he is usually very in-character. Can't say something like "jumping in front of Mew and Mewtwo" after he did similar things at least 20 times over the years so it kinda cheapens it

-The absolute determination he showed in the Primeape capture
-Staying up all night thawing out Charizard
-Basically any under-their-breath insult between him and Misty
-Just how well he developed over the years. He matured. Became a legitimately better trainer, a more seasoned traveler, a more supportive friend, a more gracious loser, etc.

It's so crazy to have followed him weekly basically my whole life and then choose a moment. Some series are way weaker than others but Ash was always good. The first season has lots of hilarious moments compared to later.
His best moments are probably those where he shows strong care for his Pokmon. Pikachu in the first episode is already an example of this. Thawing out Charizard as mentioned. There are plenty.

On the reverse side, he expected his Palpitoad to solo Elesa, forgetting that she's a Gym Leader. Y'know, monotype trainers who compensate for their type's weaknesses, of which electric has only one. Hilarious how dumb he looked there.

But there are also good things, like him attempting to die for Pikachu in the first episode or spending all night trying to help Charizard thaw out. Or high comedy like Misty saying "You and I will be married some day, too, Ash." and him taking a moment to realize what that meant.

Original series was the best for Ash because he was very much a 10 y/o boy, and that made him more amusing and complex than who we have today. He learned a lot of lessons and grew a ton. He also never attempted to steal any Pokmon after getting denied by AJ and his Sandshrew, unlike Team Rocket, who never learns. Their best moments are when they're human, too, and Ash shows his best side when they agree to align against some other threat.

Adopting Chimchar and then beating Paul with it is #1 for me, but there's been a fair few over the years.

I like sassy Ash from the original series a lot too

Jesus christ BW was such a fucking mistake. It's such a weird aberration - he was progressively more competent from OS to DP, and from XY-Journeys he mostly improves. But in the middle of that he goes to Unova and becomes this indefensible moron.

Chimchar's storyline is great, and Ash vs Paul is peak anime.

I don't know why anyone would expect something major like Ash's father or him choosing a romantic partner given how the last 26 years have gone in this series.

So that means reuniting with Pidgeot was the true endgame all along. According to bulbapedia it's been 1151 episodes since it was released, what a journey!

End of an era...

Nice ending even if not all that much took place in the end.
