Sure. But they're for different reasons.

The marked yearly increase in Hikikomoris, common Karoshi attitudes, studies showing that a huge chunk the younger demographic has essentially zero interest in romantic partnerships as they're 100% focused on their career. It's reflected in their media, from overworked absentee fathers, to the sheer act of saying you want to date someone being an absolute earth-shattering moment. There are a TON of problems with Japan's social culture that go into causing a problem like this, and many of them are very uniquely, well, japanese.

God I wish this would happen in America.

Obviously the solution is to clamp down on the rights of gay people in Japan so it becomes a challenge for them to legally have children.

As many foreigners likely have any interest in assimilating and embracing the above.

Even in 1st world country's lower class people tend to have more children then those in the upper classes. So it's not and never have had anything to do finances.

Generally it seems to scale to the general rights, freedom and opportunities a country provides more then anything.

So the fewer they have, the more likely they are to have children.

The greatest form of population control there is, is a decent standard of living.

I should knock up a woman in Japan to give my son the weeb life I couldn't have! He will grow up eating ramen at the local stand with his fellow countrymen, go to a prestigious Japanese high school after barely passing the entrance exams, do various slice of life shenanigans in said high school, wear a yukata and enjoy some festival summer fireworks after winning a gold fish at a fishing game stand, make a fun group project at his school's culture festival, get in the good graces of many many Japanese women but never close the gap to romance because he is basically an anime protagonist, get in street fights every 5 seconds like in the Yakuza series and do sick-ass heat moves on his foes, enjoy some piping hot takoyaki after binging a new anime, and enjoying a nice soak at the local onsen hot spring while trying to get a peek at the woman's side >____>

My legacy will live this life! I wish my future son the best and I hope he will thank his daddy one day for giving him the true ultimate privilege of growing up in glorious Nipponland!

Well, I have a partner so I'm okay with that.

This is gonna happen all around the world eventually. And while the factors mentioned do play a part, this is just part of a much larger move towards social isolation because of the internet.

Essentially, the internet and related technologies gives you an endless amount of options on how to spend your time daily, with all sorts of people. So more and more people will be content and give up on traditional things like going out with people and socializing in person.

n my opinion this is a problem that will work itself out over the next century. these 800,000 kids have parents who chose to procreate despite all the odds. they may have inherited a constellation of traits that allow them to resist the negative effects of modernity on fertility and japan may see a rebound as kids come of age.

I still don't see why declining populations are a bad thing. I don't believe the world is overpopulated, but how much of our billions of people are actually doing anything? A decrease doesn't sound too bad.

The problem is that the world is racist as fuck. Poorer countries have high birth rates but developed countries like Japan don't want to bolster their waning population with brown people.
