Someone with high magic. Ivy and Citrinne are solid choices of characters with high magic and are likely to have S Rank Tomes. The problem with other magic units is they prefer to be Mage Knight and don't have S rank. And Nova is good, but I'm not sure it's worth losing Mage Knight.

This is in my girls-only playthrough.

Alear = Paladin (Sword)
Framme = Griffon Rider (Sword/Staff)
Chloe = Mage Knight (Lance/Magic)
Yunaka = Thief (Dagger)
Anna = High Priest (Magic/Staff/Arts)
Lapis = Great Knight (Sword/Axe)
Etie = Warrior (Axe/Bow)
Jade = General (Axe)
Ivy = Lindwurm (Magic/Staff)
Timerra = Picket (Lance)
Panette = Great Knight (Lance/Axe)
Merrin = Wolf Knight (Sword/Dagger)
Hortensia = Sleipnir Rider (Magic/Staff)
Goldmary = Hero (Sword/Lance)

I'm leaning towards either Panette or Chloe as the girl I bench for Veyle. Panette is statistically my weakest pure physical unit, since she doesn't have the sheer strength or bulk that Jade does, but she's also slow and gets doubled by enemies that Lapis, Timerra, and Goldmary don't. Chloe isn't working as well as I hoped she would as a mixed attacker, so in reality she feels like a mage with too many points wasted on her strength stat and not enough on her magic and speed, so Anna, Ivy, and Hortensia outperform her. Plus, Veyle would be fulfilling a similar role to Chloe as a mixed attacker, since I plan to class change her to either a Mage Knight to make her identical to Chloe (but with much better stats) or to a Wolf Knight so she can have better speed but still use her unique dagger to do magical attacks. Everyone else besides Panette and Chloe either has a unique niche that I can't give up despite them not having great stats (like Etie being my only bow user) or does the same jobs that Panette and Chloe do but better.

Having one of every hero is a bit of a pitfall. But I think it's possibly the least bad in this game. Generally though, you'll just end up gravitating towards whatever class is good more than the base.

As much as people go gaga for the likes of Kagetsu etc for their bases, but it really depends on who's on what class and has what emblem. I'm fairly sure even Bouch is usable on the right classes

I gave my Chlo the Excalibur skill and she's pretty good. I never needed to use any other skill besides that. And how is Anna doing as a high priest? I have my Anna as a hero who uses axes + silver bow. She was pretty bad at first but after leveling her up a bit she doesn't die anymore.

Mixed attacking has almost never been terribly effective in a FE game. In most cases its easier to just stick with one thing. This is particularly true of mixed attackers who lean magic. Basically the only time you reach for your physical weapon is against mages, and even then their squishiness makes them pretty easy to take care of so the mixed offense is just meh.

That said Mage Knight is still the best magic non-unique magic stat for most units but not because it's weapon access. It's because it us very fast. That said offensive impotence in either category is Chlo's biggest flaw, so if she isn't cutting it, just bench her.

Panette is probably the most min-maxed unit in the game. She is good at one thing and that is going crit-crazy. And she is peerless and cheap to do that with. Make her a Warrior. Give her a forged Killer Axe with a crit engraving, throw Vantage on her, give her Ike. She is now an unkillable enemy phase unit that has 100% crit against basically every enemy in the game.

The best part of the build is how unfuckupable it is. Like it's almost impossible for the RNG to screw you enough that it doesn't work.

I ended up benching Chloe and changing Veyle to a Wolf Knight. Her stats blow Chloe's out of the water after the class change.

I've actually been using her as a Sage for most of the game, and I only just switched her to High Priest because she hit the Luck stat cap as a Sage and High Priest has a cap in that stat that's 8 points higher. I want to turn her into a money farm with her personal skill, and that requires her Luck stat being as high as possible. In general, Anna is much better in a magic class because her natural magic growth of 50 is insane compare to a paltry 15 in strength. But you have to switch her to a magic class early on (either right when you first get her or promote her at level 10 and then immediately switch her then) to fully take advantage of it. Having her in a pure physical class feels like a waste IMO, but I suppose she could go mixed and make good use of magic weapons like the Radiant Bow thanks to her magic growth.

Just finished chapter 25. Only got 2 chapters left. I'm tempted to finish the game tonight but I'm going to instead do one chapter tomorrow night and the next Saturday night. I'm going to miss my Engage crew but I'll either be playing Three Houses or Awakening next. @DB_Insider

Apparently the next DLC wave with the Robin/Chrom and Veronica rings is coming next week (March 8) which is sooner than I expected. Maybe the rumors that this game was completely finished and sitting release-ready on a shelf for a whole year because they really wanted to release the planned Genealogy remake first but that second team/project fell so far behind that they were forced to release this game first were true after all, because it sure seems like they had all of this DLC ready to go out the door.

I think I'm going to put my current second playthrough on hold until after this batch drops, just in case the new rings are really good or they add some cool quality-of-life changes along with the update like they did with the previous batch.

I figured the DLC wouldn't be ready for quite a while. I must have been thrown off because the Pokemon Violet DLC won't be here until the end of the year. I'll put my game on hold for now as well so I can finish the game with the new rings.

Yeah Tiki on Vander is what I would consider pretty balanced. Also due to his high bulk, he's probably gonna be invincible for most of the game when his engage is up.

No. If you're gonna do an all guys playthrough you should do an all guys playthrough with all guys emblems, too. But, give up on Vander, he's not meant to be used once you get enough units to no longer need to deploy him. Dude's growth's are mud. He's never gonna get better and his experience gain is even worse.

3H Bracelet is the most interesting by far.

Hector kinda feels like a worse Ike in some ways and better Ike in other ways. Soren is great doubly because Celica takes so goddamn long to return.

3H Bracelet does involve some RNG element though. I had a run where my 1st turn relied entirely on getting Dimitri first so I can get the Shield Gambit. However, combat arts will forever be one of the better parts of 3H's semi-underwhelming combat system (gambit being the other, probably the best part of the higher difficulty). Kinda weird Celica didn't get combat arts, but Celica as a character relied more on magic than Combat Arts so it makes sense

I think stuff like Luna/Sol/Sandstorm needs to go away permanently. RNG activation skills are the worst part of pretty much every game they're on imo. Sandstorm I'm a bit of a fan of cuz it turns a shitty character into a surprisingly powerful character with luck. But a lot of times it just kinda makes her usefulness entirely depend on luck, not strategy

Tiki's could've been interesting. Not sure why they chose to give her a freaking 15% growth buff on everything as a base bond passive. I feel like she's actually really powerful even without it

And even once you get her back Warp Ragnark's damage is just pitiful against the silver swinging enemies and wyverns that aren't affected by anti dragon weapons are, God I hate those fucking things, they killed so many of my units I had to restart a run because only my broken ass Alear survived the battle

I didn't do that with my girls-only playthrough.

Plus, it's basically impossible to completely avoid using all of the emblems of one gender or the other. Marth is forced onto Alear in chapter 22 and you need to use Alear to beat that chapter so it's impossible to not use a male Emblem in a playthrough. I think Lucina is forced onto Alear at one point too, but even if she's not, beating the miasma-flooded chapter 15 without the terrain-altering effects of the Corrin or Camilla rings sounds like an absolute nightmare and not worth the suffering.

I'll get Chrom/Robin and Veronica first so I have something new to experiment with, my current tactics are not up to snuff, to many of my units aren't strong enough to hold the line from the gangbang attacks while I send another squad to seal off the ring thief's escape. This is suppose to be Alear's paralogue as an Emblem right? if it is why is that ring there if Alear's engage ring medium is already on their finger?

1) The experience from defeating the enemies in that chapter.
2) The character you give the pact ring to gets *story spoilers up to chapter 22* a unique skill when you use Engage+ with them and Emblem Alear

Staffs are practically magic agnostic on this game so at a minimum you could make Vander a Martial Master and have him staff/chain guard bot to keep him always contributing. He'd be offensively worthless, but that was kinda his destiny anyway.

He can also reclass to Hero early for the double chase at lvl 5. Getting to lvl 5 is a pretty difficult thing for him but it's a niche. Hilariously he can also go warrior and tech in a Radiant Bow. You can basically one shot fliers up to the boat ch

You can basically just put Reposition and Canter on every single character, just about. Some might love Speedtaker, usually your carry. But cost vs usefulness wise, or even just usefulness alone, those 2 skills are way at the top.

Corrin has some underrated skills just because they aren't broken

Pair Up is great on anyone that is tanking, especially if they are your Ike tank

Quality Time is really nice on Alear just because they have supports with everyone

Seadall likes Quality Time (he is always going to end his turn next to someone else) and the highest HP skill you can get from Corrin (he should be Dancing 99% of the time so making him more survivable is important in the long run)

I've only been able to test once but you get an upgrade for each item you put in. I put in 5 items and got 5 items in return. I did Elfire, Elsurge and Elthunder hoping I would get Nova or Thoron but I got 3 scrolls that raise SP by 500. I also did a Silver item (I think Dagger) which gave me the cake. For the Crossant I put in a Killer Bow which I was hesitant about because there's not an infinite amount like the other items but I figured I would risk it.

At a glance, Vero feels pretty good but a bit too RNG reliant (literally all of my rolls thus far have been 3*s or 4*s), and Chrom reminds me of Leif or Roy in being perfectly fine but not really anything game breaking.

Though that's only from a tiny bit of testing.

At the very least, neither of these feel as crazy as Soren or Tiki, who are both busted, IMO.

Chrom's skill where the foe can't counterattack if the unit attacks from terrain that provides an Avoid bonus sounds really cool if you pair it with Yunaka+Corrin to generate fog. It also provides a Levin Sword (that's even lighter than the normal one) right from bond level 1, so you can potentially get a mixed unit like Celine a great weapon super early in the game. But overall, Chrom just seems solid. Nothing too gamebreaking, but solid.

As for Veronica, she seems even weaker in combat, but I would still get her ASAP. She has an inheritable skill that gives the unit 20 SP per kill (even if they don't have any ring equipped, if they do have one then the SP gain stacks on top of what they'd normally get) which is fantastic. Between that skill and the new Ancient Well that can sometimes give you SP books as rewards, grinding SP is much easier now. The only problem is that you need bond level 13 with her to be able to use/inherit that skill.
