I just realized how pointless it really is for us to use spoiler tags in a topic where it's implied that the whole series up to the current point will be fair game for spoilers anyway lol

Fair point

In a series revolving about change, conflict, and acceptance, it's pretty fucking weird to instantly cry about a change you don't like.

If they immediately swore the show off because the Doctor was a woman, I'm curious how they feel about the actor who's playing the next Doctor lol

If you mean David Tennant absolutely fantastic!

If you mean Ncuti Gatwa I have no problems with that as he is a MAN! A MAN! He is male the way The Doctor should be.

The Doctor could be played by a PYGMY for all I care as long as he is male.

I posted that video to show you that I am in THE MAJORITY who think that Chibnall and Whittaker were disastrous for DW.

"Oohh look lets create The Timeless Child and throw 50 years of established canon out the TARDIS doors"! Oh good grief.

Yeah I get why the storyline needed to eventually happen for fans of the original series, but the way it was handled was incredibly sloppy. As was discussed earlier in the topic, the Renegade Doctor should not have had the blue police box TARDIS if she was pre-One, because the reason it's a blue police box is because the chameleon circuit broke in the first episode -- prior to that, it was stated by both Susan and the Doctor that it was disguising itself as intended when they traveled.

And as was also stated, they definitely could have fit the BoM Doctors in by saying they were forgotten regenerations between Two and Three, only actually forgotten and not just repressed. There would have been no plot holes in that case.

It was a very sloppily handled retcon that wound up opening more plot holes than it closed.

The Brain of Morbius doesn't cause any issues if you regard the faces the we see as Morbius's. I'm pretty sure that was the accepted theory by fans for decades and didn't trouble anyone. But Chibnall must have seen the episode when he was a kid and it bothered him so much that he grew up wanting to write an explanation for a 2 second cameo.

The theory was long-standing in the Doctor Who fandom. That's not to say that it HAD to have been this way, but it does say that there's more precedent than one mega-nerd using the show to write fanfiction about his personal fan theory.

Just tag CassandraCroft as a troll and move on lol. They're not worth anyone's time.

Anyway, yeah Jodie deserved better. Feel like that's the general consensus. I do enjoy a few of her episodes enough to rewatch them (Ghost Monument, Punjab, Tesla, Sontarans, Angels, etc.) but most of them are genuine stinkers. Let's never talk about Orphan 55...

And of course it pisses me off they blue-balled us with this multi-year long arc about the Timeless Child and Ruth, only to barely address anything by the end. I was as pissed as I was when Moffat had a multi-year arc about the Doctor's name only to (obviously) not reveal that either. Stop having arcs that revolve around revealing stuff about the Doctor when you have no intention of actually revealing it! It's called Doctor "Who" for a reason lol.

Ultimately, though, sadly...

Her best performance for me - and the moment where she most felt like The Doctor - was actually the video she put out in lockdown that she filmed on her phone in her cupboard at home
...this is legitimately my stance as well.

I was really sick from covid and feeling like I was on death's door when she put that out, and it honestly helped get me through it. I really wish her performance there on her own carried into the show proper, because that was definitely the moment it clicked in my head, "Yeah. That's the Doctor."

On the other hand, yeah, Sacha's Master was great. Didn't care for him in Spyfall, but his performance in Power of the Doctor was inspired. Perfect blend of classic Master and new Master. Power of the Doctor was really fun overall, though, so it's no surprise lol.

Me and the wife had put off watching her run for a while. I ended up watching through it all late last year finally while slow at work.

First two seasons, I picked out a handful of episodes from each for the wife to watch..skipped the ones i felt weren't worth it.

Her last season though, me and the wife both agreed they finally let her showcase why she could have been great. Just fantastic episodes. Loved them all.

Me and the wife agree on one thing for sure: All of her companions were great, as were a lot of the side characters who popped up a couple of times. Also hope the idea of Division is revisited later, because for it to be done with like that feels wrong.

The theory was long-standing in the Doctor Who fandom.

It was a fucking stupid fan theory that made no sense. Morbius is literally shouting, "how long have you lived, Doctor! How long?! Back! Back to Your Beginning!" as the faces flip by on screen. It's quite clearly the Doctor's faces. It makes no sense for it to be Morbius's faces. Even the DVD extras from the producers are like, "Yeah, it's the Doctor's faces."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDzSNvSjDi8

The fan theory was dumb as fuck from the beginning. It was a bunch of fans ignoring what was happening on screen to justify fixing what they saw as a mistake. Cibnall didn't do anything but walk down the path Philip Hinchcliffe laid down in 1976. Just because no one bothered to follow up on it before Cibnall doesn't mean he somehow rewrote canon.

This topic inspired me to watch a Jodie episode, so I chose Rosa since I haven't seen it since it first aired and I don't remember liking it that much despite people always rating it highly.

And I almost immediately remembered a key problem I had with 13.

When Ryan's slapped for being Black, and when they're forced out of the restaurant, and...with every racist encounter they have, really, 13's just so frustratingly passive. She looks shocked and/or unsure how to react, just shifting around in the background or glaring at people but not saying anything. And when she does talk back she sounds frazzled or nervous. I feel like literally *any* other Doctor would instantly be front and center with a witty comeback or attempt to take control of the situation, all charisma and charge. They would not tolerate having their friends be treated like that. 12 literally punched a dude out one season prior when they were racist to Bill.

I get the episode is supposed to feel more "grounded" and "realistic," and 13 acting more Doctor-y would just garnered them more unwanted attention or whatever, but it still feels so out-of-character.

13 really feels like a background character in her own show at times, and that's really frustrating.

Having the pretty white woman step in and solve racism for her friend would probably not be the best way to play that.

The problem with Rosa is that it's a dumb place to set a story. Nobody wants to see the Doctor just passively standing there and taking shit from racists. You can justify it with "not polluting the timeline" or whatever bullshit you want. But the audience doesn't want to see it. Just like no one wants to see the Doctor on a hijacked 911 plane while explaining fixed points in time. Nobody cares how you justify it. Don't write the Doctor into stories featuring real life tragedies that he/she isn't allowed to solve.
