I hate to admit it, but yeah. Besides my parents, if someone calls me, I'll decline the call and then text them to see what they wanted lol
Exactly, or I assume it is an actual emergency. And I am even over 40.

11 days isnt a theyre still waiting on responding

its a they read your text when they werent available to respond, and then forgot

I wouldnt be too upset about it tbh. If it was something you needed to get an answer on you shouldve followed up a day or two later

Or they've set their text app to not display notifications. So the only time they see any text at all is when they voluntarily open the app.

I had to do that for 2 years, because once my mother discovered texting, she'd text all the time. But she'd only text one word per text. So I'd end up with thousands of texts from her in just one day.

And while you can block a number, you can't (in good conscience), block your own mother's number.

It took her 2 years to learn the ins and outs of texting.

Sometimes people are in the shower or slow typers

If they can't answer the phone, they won't. Which means you know that they can't respond at the moment. Whereas a text is like an email, the person may or may not see it... and you'll never know.

This is some psychopath behavior

Is it? Why do you think so?

And, by this thread, they also seem to hate texts, too. So pick your poison.

Gamefaqs is a poor proxy for society. I have tons of friends, co-workers and family. All know how to text properly and respond within less than a day. Most within a couple hours.

Gamefaqs is filled with people who have social issues.

Oh my God that sounds extremely annoying. I thought it was bad when my ex used to treat texts like an instant messenger. But at least with her, she was sending a few words per message. How did you keep your sanity getting 1 word messages for 2 years?

This lol. Not a single one of my friends, family, or coworkers take more than a day to respond. Also, I HATE phone calls. >_> I've definitely ignored a friend's call before and then text to ask what he wanted lol. Usually I'd say I was busy doing something but he knows I just hate it lol. I don't do it every time though and haven't done it lately.

I think I don't respond to my dumb ol sister within the hour. Though she picks the most bizarre time to text, and I just happen to not have my phone on me. She blocked me on fb ages ago cuz we had a fight, and she forgot about it, so yeah we only text, but I don't use text in general. I don't think she minds though. We mellowed out ages ago

Meanwhile any other person? I try to respond as soon as I see it. Like how fucking long does it take to give a response, like 3-5 seconds? I don't understand how somebody is ever too busy for something that takes seconds

.as you post on Gamefaqs

Posting in a general 'open forum' of sorts is so far removed from texting or DMing.

It doesn't share the same mental space at all. It's not taxing for me in the same way.

Can kind of use it as a distraction, but the moment I go to reply to a DM or text my brain just starts to recoil from the very thought of doing that.

Tbh, this.

I have began questioning friendships before because people couldnt be assed to respond to text messages within a week.

When I mention that how long they take bothers me, people often time act like Im being entitled or that they were too depressed.

The same folk that would type up novels for a boy/girl they like. Its just weird too me. Personally.

Ive never been a just be you advocate. Sometimes you should change your worries or quirks for the sake of others.

Most of the time I sit on it and just feel guilty about it. Occasionally I feel bad enough about it to just do it.

Sometimes I just have to rip the band-aid off. Don't give myself time to dwell on it. Usually this will be while I'm already active doing things since my body is already in go mode.

I can do that. Not all messages that will suffice for.

Mostly though it's just I really don't wanna talk at that moment and anyone that knows me knows I can't text at work so saying I'm busy at home means I could still respond my responses will just be delayed.

There are some explanations outside laziness.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/7/5/7/AABUaRAAEEMd.jpg
Executive Dysfunction appears in ADHD and over neurodivergent individuals where you'll be aware of the thing you need to do and just shut down on doing it.

It's not unusual for people to experience it with social engagements as well, and they tend to view it as laziness in themselves.

Not necessarily saying that's what happened here, just showing that it isn't always "fuck this person."

At this specific point in my life I actually prefer having phone calls instead of text. I can say a lot in a much shorter span of time. I work two jobs right now and usually I'm tired enough I don't feel like talking to anyone at all, but when I do feel like talking I'd rather get it all out at once. I'm sure once I'm back to one job i can handle text better but I'm liable to not reply to something simply because I don't feel like it which is selfish both ways on my end but whatever.
