No one's on 4chan anymore. Its remaining demographics skew heavily foreign (mainly South American and Southeast Asian) nowadays on its most active boards, despite posting in english. Very odd situation that many aren't aware of.

I am curious on what the traffic levels are now, in comparison to years past. Like 10, 5, even 2 years ago. Is the site on a slow steady decline, or will it eventually just kinda stabilize?

In comparison to like the late 2000s, it is a bit barren.

/v/ just had a thread a few days ago about GameFAQs. A lot of people there were former users of this site. Quite a few them used to be former CEmen.

In comparison to like the late 2000s, it is a bit barren.

Oh yeah, I remember back in the day when making a topic, you'd refresh the page and it's already on page 2, lol.

It's not dead. But, Gamefaqs is dying.. Thank the conservatrolls and just general hostility towards anyone here. This place even at the best of times is super hostile. Why is this site dying? As I said this place was a cesspool of trolling and flame wars and rarely ever had intelligent discussion. Most the old guard are perma-banned or got a life outside gfaqs.

I deal with a lot of them too. If something being a circlejerk and full of bad/false content were a problem then they wouldn't be on Tiktok all day.

A lot of them just literally cannot figure out how to navigate Reddit. Hell, I see people on here complaining about that.

Dude, you expect people to ever learn? People went to Reddit for a reason. People will abandon TikTok for the same reason too. But, y'know, tbf, I like TikTok. It's incredibly addicting.

I couldn't get into it. It narrowed down my interests impressively fast, but the content itself was incredibly bad or low-effort most of the time. I feel bad for anyone learning a new skill even partly through tiktok.

I'll say it. Gamefaqs was a cool niche. A bit of a man cave where you can discuss things that are offensive to most people nowadays.

At the same time, more woke, virtue signalling people immerged, drowning out the og users.

Then finally the mods complied and moderated anyone that 'offended' these people.

Gamefaqs doesn't fit in with the current times. Therefore it has to die.

I'm just sticking around til I get the block rank , then I'll be moving onto the new forum that I found about a year ago.

makes sense for video game related boards and other niche topic boards but not for places like Current Events when the discussion is open ended - the no fun allowed mods really torpedo'd this place.

Yah, a lot of it is on the mods. Get modded for something and then see 30 other posts saying the exact same thing with no trouble. If youre one of their buddies then youre good, if they dont like you then you can get modded for literally anything.

Its humorous to me so I keep coming back for the laughs.

TC I think you are part of the problem, and you should strive to be part of the solution instead.

The TL'DR of it is: CE's basically just a boring hivemind where those in favor and those against it will get bored and walk off because nothing really gets done.

The full thing:
For a forum called "Current Events", you'd think they want to hear all sides about current events in the world, but the forums full of middle-aged people stuck in their ways who only want to hear and feel validated on their view.
And surprise surprise: it gets boring. So now you have even the users this benefits leaving because people WANT resistance to keep things interesting. If it's just a circle jerk, then everyone loses. It's why, on average, topics hating something or topics going against the norm get far more posts than posts adhering to the hivemind, on any platform: it's interesting. It engages people.
CE's basically weeded that out.

These same middle-aged individuals are hateful, spiteful people who hide behind virtue signaling to aim their hatred at whatever the new thing they agree to hate is, all while not actually caring about the people they claim to fight for.
They don't donate.
They don't do any extracurricular volunteer work.
Nah, their definition of "helping" is building rapport with their fellow hate-filled 30-40+ year olds to pat themselves on the back.

Singular thinking where, when you come to the forum you know what 95%+ of the topics are gonna be about AND all talk, no action? Tell me that's not a recipe for killing longevity at a rapid rate.

This is why forums like Reddit are a better alternative and have so many people.
Now, if you've been on Reddit, you know they can be pretty hiveminded.
BUT if you don't like one's line of thinking, there are many alternatives. CE doesn't really have many alternative lines of thought on GFaqs.

But you know what? Even with that, Reddit's very open to reasonable discussion.
For example, the MtF subreddit (One of my favorite subreddits: probably my most browsed one) had a MtF individual talk about how transphobic people are who won't date you based on genitals. They went on dates, or couldn't get dates that didn't pan out due to them finding out they're pre-op and have no plans to get surgery.
Now on CE, this earns a lot of praise and reinforcement. But on the subreddit?
No. They got immense backlash. "Everyone has a genital preference, even trans. And that's okay." In fact, they called HER selfish in trying to force people to change their genital preference to something they're not comfortable with, and even gave examples as to why that line of thinking is not fair to the accused involved.

The feminism subreddit is actually where I found out the gender pay gap doesn't exist. On CE though? For so many claiming to be smart, I find it very weird that NO ONE mentioned the other factors to why it wasn't real, and it had more to do with both genders being paid equally, but female co-workers having more inclinations to tendencies to reduce their overall pay throughout the entire year for men and women in the same roles (More time off, less hours worked, less likely to ask supervisors for a raise due to men being more competitive on average, etc.). Instead, CE cites the salary data rather than what led to those salaries being different.
Which is why every time it's brought up to the BBB or some other labor institution, they can't do anything about it because it doesn't exist.
I learned THAT from the subreddit. ACTUAL feminists. Not middle-aged stuck-in-their-ways "feminists" on GFaqs.

So CE fails as a social circle, it fails as an entertaining circle, and it fails as an educational one. And the few users who TRY to educate, who TRY to get a discussion going between two opposing sides, are dogpiled by all the 30-40+ year olds for daring to argue for a different view that doesn't conveniently keep them in their airtight bubble so they can continue to hate something without bothering to learn the context.
This is why it earned its nickname "ResetEra 2.0".

Probably Reddit since its most active year since its inception in 2005 was 2020, and it only barely dropped since then, though there are a few sources claiming it's only gotten more users.

I really don't get the ones saying that site's dying. It's "dying" in the sense that's it's barely below its peak, but that's like saying WoW was dying a year after its peak from 100 million+ subscribers to 98 million+. It's only dying in the MOST literal of definitions.

This website makes everything political and any stance that goes against a popular users is met with backlash, just like Reddit but at least on reddit you can go somewhere else. You post your opinion on anything here and someone will take it the worst way possible lol
