I played on 3ds so I can't speak to if it was worse on N64

LA Switch version of Eagle Tower is possibly MORE tedious than GBC due to performance issues and joycon drift, despite the second item button.

Water Temple and Eagle's Tower were both amazing dungeons imo. The only thing that made the original Water Temple a bit grating was the boots switching.

It's the last one, so it has to be the most annoying. That's the rules for Zelda.

Multi level one way tile navigation plus the bowling ball plus the switches mean you take a huge time loss for the slightest error, which is exacerbated by this being a square grid game that Nintendo forces you to use the joystick with. I bet it was simpler on GBC, but in this version, you WILL take falls because your jump wasn't perfectly aligned (especially any hint of a diagonal), and the game engine conservatively holds your distance back to prevent exploits. The game also loves to eat jump inputs right after entering an area, and this dungeon contains places where this becomes painfully obvious.

There's literally chunks of the level that are useless. There are two extra keys on pointless locks just to make you think you might be making progress but all they do is create a shortcut that is still 1-way and no better than your available routes.

The huge walls of switch fences make getting the lay of the level much more difficult too. The first floor is outright a labyrinth for the sake of it. There's nothing clever going on, it is just meant to frustrate you and extend your time spent. On the second floor, you need to be boomeranging the switches proactively so that your journey back up isn't even fucking worse.

There's a mini boss room with the guy that throws Link. If he tosses you, you appear programmed to fall into one of the holes which kills your whole progress, and if you didn't proactively change the switches behind you, even worse.

The enemy layout is petty. Multiple rooms which make up a necessary route for progression you must take multiple times (even if playing totally optimally) are filled with the invincible rotator blades that hit you IMMEDIATELY upon entering the room. Similarly, the flaming Frisbee enemies that are immune to most kinds of damage are positioned to run straight into Link from his starting point. They don't threaten a game over because there are heals, but it adds to the pointless tedium nonetheless.

This is all on top of the journey to this place being the worst in the game, with a wild goose chase to find the dungeon key. This dungeon singlehandedly kills the pacing and momentum of this whole game and there's no time to recover afterwards.
