I get salmon every now and then since it's pricey per pound, what other fish taste as good but lighter on the wallet?

Steelhead trout is a very similar alternative to salmon, they are usually around the same price, but if one is on sale over the other I'll go for it.

Orange crappie has a horrid name but it's an excellent tasting fish.

Nothing wrong with tilapia or swai if you prepare it right too.

Chilean sea bass is the best tasting fish but its not lighter on the wallet at all. I like light white fish personally so maybe cod, swai or red snapper.

Ahi tuna steaks are so fucking good

Also probably not a cheap alternative to salmon lol. Really when it comes to more affordable fish salmon is the best imo.

region has a huge impact, because more than anything freshness is most important on fish. if youre inland, catfish, tilapia, blue gills might be whats best.

if youre PNW salmon really is king.

if you're in Miami stuff like swordfish can be fresh and is amazing there.

I had rare ahi for the first time. What most surprised me was the texture.

It depends on where you live. Salmon is actually very cheap where I live, but there are tons of choices.
