Do mobile/web games count as lost media?
There's a handful of Facebook games including a cute chocobo game I miss.
The KH mobile game shut down, but is fairly well documented. Same for Mobius FF. FFRK is on its way out globally :(

I think almost all of those are preserved.
If we're talking Facebook games then avengers alliance is right up there for me.

the original reels of the Star Wars trilogy
the uncompressed Japanese audio for DBZ

Copies of the original Star Wars still exist. You can actually watch the original movie if you physically go to the Library of Congress.

Apparently, uncompressed audio for Japanese DBZ has been preserved by fans, don't know how easy it is access it though.

not quite. intentionally vaulted, but existing copies still exist. and it'll be way more than one by the end of it. the batgirl movie could count, though.

Now that you mention it, wasn't there this one mobile game, about a decade ago, where you're a guy with a sword, running towards a castle? 3D, dark spiky gothic style, looked great, at least for the time, and it was a big hit.

Infinity Blade! Man, I remember that the game was taken down on the same day I got a smartphone.

YT and PH vids.

Most paid media is never really lost because it was already pirated somewhere before it was removed, but nobody bothers pirating amateur stuff that was free to begin with. When it gets deleted it's just gone forever. :/

Way back in the late 90s, they made these short cartoons on the net based on that prison show Oz on HBO, but they did it with the real animals from the Wizard of Oz story in prison. Shit was hilarious. And I have looked for that shit...it is lost to time, or I just don't know the right keyword, damn sure don't know the title.

NBC made a Sesame Street like children's series back in the 70s called "That's Cat." John Sebastian performed the theme song. John Sebastian was most famous for writing and performing "Welcome Back", the theme to the sitcom "Welcome Back Kotter" which is where John Travolta first became famous.

The show featured a shit ton of famous 70s singer song writers, which is what helped it become so acclaimed. Even though "That's Cat" won Emmies, it was never released on home entertainment due to all music licensing issues involved. They played reruns of it on Saturday mornings back in the 80s before the cartoons would start. Then the 1985 fire at NBC studios destroyed all the master copies.

Not a single episode of "That's Cat" survives. A few short skits have appeared, but these were from film students who had their work aired on the show and who had uploaded it themselves. They are not the show proper featuring the hosts. The only hope left is that someone at home taped a rerun on VHS and uploads it. Or an NBC affiliate has a forgotten copy collecting dust.

Here is a video about it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LcAdVUbvIA

For years, people have begged John Sebastian to upload the theme song or at least live perform it, but he has refused citing "Copyright issues." Here is someone performing the theme to the best of his memory:

They're not well known cases but my personal cases that I've literally spent years trying to find again but can't.

  1. In elementary school, around 1995, our principal had an Australian (?) or NZ (maybe?) folk singer visit and perform for us. She had two songs my friends and I remember and still sing/quote as inside jokes. One was like, "we are the denizens of the world - that's what we are," and another that said, "You know it's true blue. You know it's true blue. Aussie export [?]" Since it was 1995 and the internet was like brand new - I doubt it's documented online. I've tried searching soo many things and can't find anything.
  2. There was this thread on B9 about bad music like well over a decade ago, and this band was posted called Church of Hate that was kind of like a Cradle of Filth-ish band. There was a Youtube video of them performing at a venue called Hell's Kitchen (if you look them up - the majority of their videos are at this venue) and they played this hilarious song while mall-goth women spread their asses and pressed their boobs together on stage. The song had these hilarious lyrics like, "fuck me with the fist you fuck yourself with. Dirty little bitch, I know you want it," and "spread your fucking asshole - show it to me!" Since then I've tried to find this video again and can't. I can't even find the song by searching the lyrics verbatim. I even listened to every live video of them I could find looking for the lyrics -- and even listened to tons of their recorded material to try and find the same song, but at no avail. I don't know if it's an obscure cover or what.
  3. Back in the Myspace days this Juggalo rapper from the Akron area added my best-friend. His name was DTK (Durrick [sp?] tha Killa). He had these hilarious songs like, "kill yourself you fucking slut. No one gives a fucking fuck. End it all and split your wrists. No one gives a fucking shit." It was all super low production quality. He ended up having a kid who he named Krados (yes, he spelled it that way). My best friend asked him if he still had demo cds for sale, and I think he knew my friend was making fun of him - so he just ignored him. Fast forward - a lot of his newer material is featuring other bad Northeast Ohio rappers and has a weird auto-tuney feel to it, and he wiped a lot of the older material from online. You can still find profiles for him searching him on Google - but none of them have the great oldies like "Valentine's Day," and "Kill yourself."

Amateur porn is dead now. There's no real place to upload it anymore.
2257 compliance all but kills off the "TV too loud in the apartment" stuff, while the tube sites are little more than paysite/OF spam nowadays because of the payment processors all going "nope" at once leading to even more hoops and gatekeepers on those.

I've rediscovered some amateur ph stuff on other sites. Had them bookmarked when they were originally uploaded on ph so knew their entire titles. That said they were some of the more popular amateur stuff with at least 100k views. The video quality is way worse on the re-uploads tho which is a shame
