That's typical for a Jagen unit. Looks like a regular FE game to me honestly.

I don't know how this game is gonna turn out because 3H did not look good initially in its trailers and ended up being my favorite game in the series.

The title though is absolute horse shit. It could have been literally any other poorly named title (Genealogy lol) and even then it still wouldn't come close to sniffing "Engage". No wonder so many people are confused whether this is a mainline game or a spin-off title.

The trailer is also not good and has left a really bad impression on me. And after coming off 3H, I was really hyped for the next game. Now the reviews are gonna be the deciding factor for me whether the game is worth my time or not. 3H ended up being great, so I hope the best for this one as well. The title though.... Yeeesh.

Engage is a bad name, nothing is going to change that, even if the game ends up 10/10.

Like, not to keep beating a dead horse here, but it's hard to deny that the name and logo in a vacuum all on it's own say "mobile game" if you didn't watch the trailer.

I don't think it's bad, but I don't think many Fire Emblem titles are good (Three Houses is terrible). It's interesting that this seems to be one of the only titles that's the same in Japanese and English, though? Like even the ones that had English titles in Japanese (Fates was Fire Emblem If in Japan) were changed in the English version.

I would have assumed it was a spin-off title if I hadn't already known the next mainline FE game was already done and Nintendo was just waiting for the right time to release it. Even then, I was like "Wait what, really? THIS is the next mainline game???

The blame doesn't only lie with the title though. The trailer, the concept and the presentation kept making me think it was either a mobile game or a multiplayer spin-off title and the actual mainline title was gonna come up in the next trailer.

The fact that a lot of people are, is an indicator for how badly named it is though.

The acronym for the game is FEE

That's my only concern over the subtitle

The issue specifically is that engage inherently sounds like a "futuristic" or "technical" word, especially with the boring, overly simplistic logo, and when you give a fantasy series a modernish name like that it sounds like a spinoff.

Now, all so forgiven if Engage's plot ends up actually doing what Three Houses scratched the surface of with teases, and goes all in on "actually this is some kind of future setting and it turns out the villains have guns and stuff"

Fates is fine. It fits their trend of one-word subtitles based on vibes. Awakening, Fates, Echoes. All decent. The vanilla ice cream of titles.

Three Houses is bad but the original title is, like, untranslatable. It at least tells you roughly what you're going to get: feuding houses, and there are three of them. It's fine.

Genealogy of the Holy War is a great title. The only way it could be better is if it was Descent of Jihad instead.

Engage sounds like a pun in the title of a softcore anime porn game. Might as well have called it Fire Emblem ~happy endings~ or something

Worst title by far was Revelation. Even fans don't get that one right!

I don't think it's talked about enough how the villains in that game use an actual modern day cruise missile to blow up a city and it just NEVER comes back up.

Echoes probably didn't turn out as expected. The full title is "Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia" and the subtitle is the SoV part. The "Echoes" part was probably supposed to be branding for remake games but we can't really say for certain until they release another one. Considering how often people refer to SoV as "Echoes" they may even abandon the idea.

FE4 remake will be Fire Emblem Shadows: Echoes of Jugdral for maximum confusion.

Technically, you are right that that isn't a mobile game. But, it's kind of a cheat since that game is mix of Pokemon GO mechanics with standard Pokemon gameplay and the "Go" in the title is a reference to the mobile game.

Vander seems pretty cool, it's rare that we get male characters in anime games that actually have good/full looking beards. Paladins regaining axe rank is also interesting. I don't think I've seen anything so far as to whether the classes will have leveled skills like in Awakening or Fates but I do hope so. Especially if it's like Fates which had a much wider variety of skills and just more viable skills. I also like the crit animations shown so far although I normally play with animations turned off anyway so it doesn't matter to me too much either way.

Oh yeah skills are definitely back. I watched one of the clips again and you can see skill icons for the characters when they are selected, as well as listings of the skills in the character pages. I guess it's obvious that they would be, but still a nice confirmation.

I wonder how acquiring new skills will work. I hope it's not like this game's spiritual predecessor where it's tied to the gacha system.

Characters have SP which is what is used in Fire Emblem Heroes to learn skills so...

I've been out of Heroes for a while but I'm pretty sure if you want your characters to have ideal skills you need to inherit them from other characters, which means depending on gacha. Or you get what you can from free heroes. Depends how many thousands of dollars you're willing to drop.

In the best case scenario it will work like some evolution of Fates system. Skills could be learned only while leveling and gaining SP in a particular class. Changing class lines won't reset your level to 1, but it will reset your SP to 0 maybe. This would allow you to learn your targeted skills and then switch to a new class line to begin picking up skills there, without having to go through the overly tedious Awakening process of starting over from level 1 each time you want to start learning new skills. Also tying the process to SP could make it so that you can learn the skills in whatever order you want, instead of needing to learn them in a pre-determined order. So if you think that Healtouch is useless but you really want Renewal, you can just pay for Renewal without needing to unlock Healtouch first. Heck, even if your Skill Points didn't reset when you changed classes -- this would very likely make the game a lot easier and also allow you to spend as little time as possible in 'bad' classes with 'good skills' -- I'd be interested in seeing a system like that. Sadly, this is all speculation at this point. We really don't know what they're going to do.

Don't wanna risk the topic purging, but the Twitter hasn't had an update in a few days. 3H updated quick and often so hopefully that changes.

Going back to that Vander clip, I'm appreciating how nice the lighting and coloring looks. I know it's not exactly wild that it looks decent but a lot of 3H did not!

The only truly bad FEH influence would be if they dumbed the gameplay down to FEH levels.

Doesn't look like they're doing that so it's whatever. I'd be more afraid of influence from Fates than FEH.

I think it is. It seems to be based on how Framme's name was localized because her name isn't Framme in Japanese.

I just realized my previous post was vague since you asked two questions. I think Serenes came up with the name but there's a good chance it will be the official one as well.

Rewatched the new clip a couple times and the map music seems good, but I actually really don't like that battle version (what did they call those in 3H again, rain and thunder versions?). Could just be an unfortunate section of the song to cut away to for the combat timing.

The music is gonna be a big uphill battle for me because Fodlan Winds might be my favorite map music...in any game, ever? My music app doesn't give me a counter but I know I've listed to it several hundred times. The battle version was excellent as well, though not nearly as good as the map.
