Giving Goku and Vegeta divergent paths in terms of abilities and goals rather than having them in a race to get to the next super saiyan level first is smart. Pitting them against enemies that can't be beat with raw strength is great. Finding excuses to give older characters like Roshi something to do rather than just being yet another cheerleader is fun. Having opponents ALSO get stronger through training in the background rather than the whole universe being static outside of the Z-fighters is something we haven't really seen since Dragonball. Toriyama sort of cut that out of the formula as time went on in favor of endless duels taking up entire episodes. That's sort of what made DBZ famous, I guess. In the name of evolving Dragon Ball - it would be interesting to see them cut even more from the formula, namely the dueling, to see Goku explored more closely as a living breathing character who isn't just a symbol of martial arts. For example, if Beerus forbid him from ever fighting again, how would Goku go about his life? lol Imagine following Goku as he goes to tournaments as a spectator, or gets wrapped up on alien adventures in a passive role, trapped in situations where he would normally have to fight to deal with them, etc. Could be fun, and a great excuse to play with his clothing <cite>Xethuminra posted [p:967459622] in Dragon Bal... Yeah they might be asspulling the story and power ups now, but I always thought Db was like that since the Buu arc and I learnt to accept it. I mean the Broly movie alone was one of the best experiences I've had in cinema. That said most franchise movies and comic books are basically fanfiction by the standard they aren't usually by the original creator anymore.
