I really like the storytelling method of telling the story from multiple perspectives. They don't all work (looking at you, Big), but I enjoy the buildup and the payoff in an awesome final battle with Chaos.

Much jankier than sa2 but chaos is cool

Is there any easy way to tell which ones I've ranked before? I see a bunch I'd like to rank but I can't remember if I have or not already but I also don't want you to check through stuff individually because that's too much of a pain. I feel like I've only done a couple but I can't remember which.

Highlights include Tails standing up for himself and becoming the hero of his dreams, the ridiculous diversion that is Big the Cat, and E-102's journey of self-discovery which is, sincerely, the most well-told story in Dreamcast's library. The other guys are kinda whatever; Amy beats up some stalker robot, Knuckles does uh, something in the distant past, and Sonic is Sonic, as he's ever been. But the highs are the draw for me, and the lows are negligible. I love this goofy-ass game.

I'm rewatching this game on YouTube, and....ew. the dialogue is the most bland janky crap. It doesn't help the actors aren't the Generations-Boom era where they can overcome the dialogue. For a game series people seem to like, nothing about this game seems to be executed properly.

Eh, I barely remember the dialogue. I'm sure it was clunky and poorly acted, but I don't feel the need to penalize the game harshly for it when I enjoyed the overall experience (SA1 > SA2).

Problem is that poorly written dialogue and poorly acted dialogue can affect the overall enjoyment and effectiveness of the story a game is trying to tell. The audio balancing is also really wonky too. We should be grateful they provided subtitles. Sure, an RPG should be held to way higher standards than say a Sonic or Mario game. Even Castlevania stories are just, "Find a guy, talk to them for 20 seconds, keep killing stuff," but the storytelling and video game mechanics surrounding the story telling should at least be competent.

I'm not arguing you're wrong. It just didn't negatively impact my own enjoyment of the story.

Came in ready to give this a 2 or so but people remimded me of the Gamma stuff. But yeah the god awful dialogue makes anything above a 5 a pretty laughable score to me.

That said, I think the story here is way better than SA2 (though that one reaches "so bad it's good" territory at times) and I think I gave that a 1 or 2.

That said, for today:
7/10

It's an extremely broken story, many things do fit together but some just don't really feel as cohesive. But it does have the story of Chaos which was pretty awesome for the first Sonic game with a real story. They didn't do too bad for a first attempt at a legitimate full story.
