My interpretation of the phone call is that Kim said something along the lines of Chuck was right off the back of the conversation they had back in season 2? (I think). Not too sure how shell appear in the end unless she comes to defend Saul but I cant see her being on the opposite side. MrToothHasYou 08/03/22 1:31:00 AM #77:	Feeling very vindicated that I was right about the last shot of the previous episode hinting that Jimmy wasnt going to be able to let Saul go and was going to fall back into his former lifestyle when the vast consensus from people I saw talking about it seemed to be that Gene hanging the shirt and tie up on the rack was meant symbolic of him letting go of the Saul persona and being at ease with just being Gene. Granted, the phone call with Kim obviously triggered things to a big extent, but we are shown from his call right before that that hes already scheming and dreaming of ways he could get back to the ABQ. He was never going to let go of (or be free of) those Saul/Slippin Jimmy tendencies. The other prediction everyone was wrong about was that the cab driver was going to be the one to drag Gene back into it, but I suspected that was wrong too, based on how his mom specifically tells Gene that he only got in trouble in Albuquerque because of being influenced into it. Now granted most mothers arent going to be like Oh yeah my boy is a real criminal but I think the impression was pretty clear throughout the heist that he didnt have much going for him in the ways of leadership or initiative. That gets confirmed this episode when he tries not to take sides about whether or not they should rip off the cancer guy. I really loved the juxtaposition of timelines as we see both Saul in the BB era and Gene in the current era face a decision that will shape their future, and the episode ending with the moment where each respectively crosses the threshold into what will eventually be their own downfall. Im still curious as to what happened with the conversation with Kim that pushed him so rapidly into scamming again (not so curious as to spoil myself, though). My hunch is that whatever it was, it made Gene realize he needed to come up with a lot of cash, quickly. Kim threatened to out him somehow unless he pays up? What if the entire thing with her asking Francesca about him was bait to tempt him into reaching out? I dont know, maybe that doesnt make sense, but they showed him stashing the money too many times during the montage for it to not be significant, imo. The use of Breaking Bad flashbacks were perfectly placed as parallels to what Saul was doing then and what Gene is doing now. We finally got our Walt and Jesse appearance and it was every bit as good as it needed to be. The conversation with Mike and the chance Saul had to let it go with Walt, once again perfectly parallels the current situation (not being able to let it go with the cancer guy) to show who Jimmy really is. He just cant help himself, this is who he is, and using the Breaking Bad timeline to help illustrate that really puts things into perspective. We even got a little bit of closure of some of the fallout of Breaking Bad during the Francesca conversation, as well as a nice full circle moment with the It wasnt me, it was Ignacio line. Everything about the episode was pretty much perfect IMO and acted as a reminder who this man truly is.
