Looking at the reddit thread it looks like a lot of modders are saying that something like this would be near impossible to fake.

Replicant sold fairly well unless you're talking about the mobile game which also had decent numbers.

Well, yea, the original was kind of janky and grindy and the remake keeps some of those elements intentionally while also keeping the simplified combat relative to Automata. The story is brilliant but the gameplay, even of the remake, is a clear step down.

from what I've heard of the community, there are a good number of people that prefer the story, characters, and/or music from Replicant, but the gameplay and art direction hold it back.

I visited the Nier: Automata board, since I no longer own a copy, and someone said the person who uploaded the video posted how they were playing on v1.000

so this might have been something that was eventually patched out.

What's your point? The original NieR was indeed pretty janky, and the re-release didn't drastically overhaul the gameplay. It made it a lot better, but Automata's still better in the gameplay department.

Either way this hidden room/church stuff is wild. It either has to be a secretly well-done mod (that even the modding community thinks is close to impossible to do right now) or he carefully crafted a fangame that looks just like the game to show off some fake secret. Or CG animation to make it look like the game. Or it could actually be in the game and you have to do something super obscure to make it appear, since this doesn't show up if you glitch out-of-bounds.

The even weirder part is that one of the devs of Automata had a mysterious message regarding this, neither confirming or dispelling this.

My guess is this is some kind of viral marketing/ARG for the upcoming Switch release or a sequel or something Drakengard related.

Huh, didn't think of that. The username of the guy who "found" this is referencing the twins that you have to fight in the game...maybe this is a secret they added to the Switch release (it already has exclusive costume content) and they're teasing it in a weird way.

this is maddening. dude has managed to activate a fight which took him a few days to beat and now a riddle sequence from Replicant is there, dude hasn't posted the correct answers as of yet though.

Yeah, this has definitely felt like a staged work. But if they're trying to get me hyped then it's working.

This has got to be some sort of viral marketing, since I could have sworn that developers said the last secret was found when that one person found the sequence to get into the dev room near the start of the game.

This is related. There's obviously something there that isn't necessarily there anymore. It's also seemingly the most anyone has managed to find since the original vid weeks ago. Which for a game with as many people trying to find this stuff, means it's got to be some super well hidden secret.

The way sadfutago's vids are constructed it has to be some sort of secret viral marketing. He deliberately does things for the sake of mystery, like immediately clicking off the file he picked up, intentionally keeping the Japanese text on-screen so people can translate it, intentionally not picking any correct answers from that riddle...

I'm convinced that this is marketing for the Switch version and it has more added content than was initially advertised.

Also I saw a tweet a few days ago where a game reviewer said they saw this room before on their review copy.

This better be real and not a ARG mod, otherwise it's pretty scummy. Has anyone considered that there might be another hidden in game code or certain actions that needs to be entered or done in at a certain point in the game and / or location to allow the player to get the prompt to access this hidden area? Hopefully that "Eternal Mystery" quote isn't meant to be literal. Maybe has to do with the console's clock?

Nobody has made any sort of level mods for the game despite it being several years old.

That doesnt mean there cant be a first. Besides, some modders are attempting to recreate this and its not impossible. Just a slow and very difficult process.

Just having access to a dev kit doesn't mean you have the development tools needed to literally build a new level into a game or the source code of the game either.

I never said it did but it certainly helps tremendously. sadfutago obviously knows exactly what this is and is playing it up for the crowd. Hes not just some random guy who stumbled upon this. From him picking the same wrong answer multiple times in a row, cutting the video at suspicious moments, and acting intentionally dense even for a child, hes obviously in on this and is a part of it in some major way.
