The bosses doing an insane amount of damage is fine... it's like they're another puzzle in the game, as opposed to something you could damage tank in earlier Metroids

Every boss has its weaknesses and set patterns

It'd be fine, if there was a narrative reason for it (IE Samus' condition deteriorating for insert reason or enemies narratively getting stronger in relation to a baseline Samus)

But how the game portrays Samus' abilities and upgrades, the ever increasing damage conflicts(at best) with what you're supposed to be understanding (Samus got a defensive/offensive upgrade, Samus got more health, etc) and even nareatively Adam implies that while you may not be ready to face Raven Beak, you are still getting stronger.

It just creates a weird, stressed divide between portrayal of a character and your actual experience as the player.

And they could have utilized the changing of Samus' DNA as a narrative tool, especially once the X are released. Could have written in that while Metroids were they natural predators of the X, when in the presence of a Metroid, an X will grow more vicious/dangerous as a defensive measure and utilize that as a narrative tool to explain the ever increasing damage you're taking.

It just feels like they could've handled it a bit better than "mOrE cHaLlEnGe GuYz"

I mean there is a reason why you get liberal checkpoints in this game instead of being sent back to save stations. It is so you can try again and feel out what you are supposed to do. I thought all of the bosses were fair even though I died a fair amount of times my first playthrough. Second playthrough I barely died to them.

I'm not saying they're unfair, just that there could've been a story reason that would've made logical sense in the context of the story, gameplay and character.

Eh, half the time the games don't even try to justify why you have to collect all of your upgrades again each game. For good reason because you're in danger of having Other M level of justification

Found them all on my own, only looked up a couple shine puzzles to make sure I was starting in the right place. Did learn about the 'maintain shine/boost' from that but I also found a puzzle out of order, I think.

lol I have 220k views on a video thats just random shinesparks from this game. Apparently the average person has a lot of trouble with them, which is funny because I thought speed booster was way more intuitive to use in this game, and the little techs they added with it were super cool

It was more stuff I didn't know you could do, like the running up sliding ledges to maintain/regain boost. One of the puzzles actually implies this very hard so if I had found that puzzle first I wouldn't have looked up the other puzzle

And a couple, I understood the shine puzzles, just wanted to confirm I was doing the right thing and not shoving square peg into round hole

Plasma beam has higher dps than Storm Missiles, and you dont need to charge it after you get Plasma to hurt bosses

Look into the sequence breaks if you want to. Theyre fun to do on a repeat playthrough and some of them are crazy

The Robot Chozo Soldier boss alone is enough to not want to play the game again.

Congratulations on beating the game!

On the subject of bosses, some of them are capable of being taken down in one hit depending on if you fulfill certain criteria. Can be rather satisfying revenge for all the grief they put you through.

But it's cool if you're one and done. What did you think about the game overall?

The Robot Chozo Soldier boss alone is enough to not want to play the game again.

The one in Ghavoran is fought in a room where you can't just loop him around in a circle to keep away from him, and as a result I found him to be the most difficult boss in the game. Even on replays, he kicks my ass most of the time and I've only just ever barely won. It's the one fight that discourages me from ever trying the game on hard.

No Plasma or Super Missile up to that point does make that fight annoying. I just jump and Shift over him while staying on the top platforms.

You can kill at least some of those robots with shinesparks iirc. If not in the room, by building up speed running into it

Also I beat the whole game in handheld <_<

Same, but that's because I have a Switch Lite lol

At the very least, you can deal severe damage to one of them even if you can't get a second charge afterwards.

I've never been good at the Speed Booster / Shine Spark stuff, but I do like how useful it is in several boss fights.

I also have yet to play my Switch in Docked Mode.

Very nice!

I waited to post this to avoid potential spoilers, but my only gripe with the game was the recycled bosses. How many times did I really need to fight the same Chozo Warrior boss/miniboss or whatever it is? It got old pretty quick.

Heh, shaved off one defeat compared to my second normal run lmao

>up against wall
>jump for extra measure
>dodge the attack (boss slammed tail into ground, trapping the tail)
>land on ground, cannot avoid touching bosses tail
>dies instantly

I think we have different definitions of "no attack is unavoidable"

I did everything and more to avoid the attack and still got hit.

Dread mode is beatable so I imagine that attack is avoidable, it's just not easy to do for certain (many) attacks.

But hey you beat Hard Mode so good job there!

There's also another attack I've seen from the first boss that also seems unavoidable, it just body slams into the wall in phase 3 of the fight, while you're hanging from the magnet surface.

You don't have any movement to stay above long enough to avoid touching the boss and its literally the length of the wall from where you're hanging down.

Unless it's drop and duck?

Doesn't matter, beat the boss.

Think I wanna move onto other games though. This just seems like an exercise in frustration.

Could've saved even more time if I had remembered dying replenishes health to full lol

The original times it's comparing against were right after I finished the game the first time.

The attacks are avoidable. Just got to learn them.

The body slam can actually be jumped over, though the timing is tight.
