The Big Four of the first Disney Renaissance had tons of Christian fundamental saying they had penis castles and hidden sexual messages in them.

Yeah, there was actually quite a bit of criticism of Disney selling sex to kids back then. Especially after that scene from the Rescuers was found out. That started a golden age of "find the hidden sex in Disney movies" urban legends lol

That's true there were always fundamentalist conspiracy theorists about "hidden sexual messages" in Disney. My point is more that there was no mainstream republican backlash about literal depictions of hetero couples just kissing on screen.

I vaguely recall there being backlash about that, actually. I can't say if it was all the kisses or just particular scenes, but it was definitely in the news in the 90s. Different cultural context though, there was so much censorship back then. Like, the raunchiest thing most people would ever see without making a purchase was the Howard Stern show.
