A man smeared human feces on a womans face in an unprovoked rush-hour attack inside a Bronx subway station, sickening new video shows. The 43-year-old victim was sitting on a bench on the southbound platform of the Wakefield241st Street station around 5:15 p.m. Feb. 21 when a man began walking toward her, holding a black plastic bag, according to cops and the clip released late Sunday. Then, without saying a word, he smashed the vile contents of the bag in her face, and then smeared it on the back of her head, the footage shows. The assailant took off after the attack, and cops were still looking for him Monday morning.

The nauseating incident comes amid a frightening uptick in Big Apple subway crime. Just three days earlier, William Blount, 57, allegedly bludgeoned hero city health worker Nina Rothschild, also 57, with a hammer and stole her bag in a Queens subway station. Rothschild was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center in critical condition with a fractured skull and bleeding to her brain, according to cops and sources.

There's a very good chance the guy is homeless and on drugs.

I'm not a violent person, in fact quite the opposite. There's not many things that I could imagine engendering a violent response from me, but someone wiping feces on me could be one of those rare things.

Good chunk of NYC homeless are mental health cases.

They have free shelters for them but you need to be sober. I would bet almost all of the street homeless are either mentally ill or are addicted to something

It's also not that simple.

Not only are there mental health and drug considerations. A lot of the "shelters" are shitty places full of shitty people

If you have a negative past with people who exploited you or pushed you to crime or danger you might not want to live next door to them.

First time I ever went to the YMCA to meet a cilent a girl walked up literally in the middle of our conversation and attacked him right in front of me because they had history.

People really do not even begin to understand the issues that lead and contribute to homelessness.

Yup. And instead of doing anything to help the problem they just decide to demonize the entire homeless population.

I've heard homeless people in my city say that they feel safer on the streets then in the shelters.

We always hear about subway violence in New York but we never hear about the victims or bystanders fighting back or even doing anything. Doesn't make sense.

I've been in a homeless shelter before just visiting and it's honestly terrible, the food sucks, you feel paranoid about the people looking at you because they either think you're about to attack them or they're thinking about attacking you, the staff are all overworked, underpaid or so broken by this they don't give a shit what happens as they are not going to stop it. Add in how absolutely nobody in the political circle wants anything to do with this, Democrats don't want these things in their neighborhoods and Republicans would rather they not exist period and it's no wonder the few sane homeless who aren't scatter brained on some addictive or mental illness say they feel safer being left to the elements of the city/world instead.

Apparently this guy was let out in 24 hours on bail and then immediately committed another hate crime.

Uh, read that again. He was released WITHOUT bail. They basically caught him for smearing shit on someone, and told him nicely to come back at a later date for a court hearing. However, this is all what the Mayor and new District Attorney publicly said they would do when they came into office so it's not a surprise.
