Prey is a truly good game, blending sci Fi action horror with cerebral problem solving. It feels similar at times to Alien Isolation but in a more complex way. Frustrations can occur, especially early on when you're still weak, due to enemy strength. I sometimes got lost in the navigating the station but that's more on me than the game design. The game provides a shit-ton of side quests, which I did probably about 65%. I also feel overwhelmed at how many choices or path I can follow in pursuit of these side quests. But over all, many were satisfying and ultimately increases the story's lore, which might be this game's best asset. If you like choices, and feeling responsible for certain outcomes, and this game will be extremely fun for you. Gameplay wise, this feels like a blend of Bioshock, Dishonored and Alien Isolation. Like in Dishonored, rooms have a lot to offer you, including passwords, pertinent info for side quests or main missions, food to restore your health, and broken parts which are vital for recycling. Recycling these broken scraps are essential to fabricating important items such as bullets, med kits and a bunch of other stuff for survival. There are plenty of scraps to find, thankfully. There are multiple ways to enter rooms. And that's part of the fun of solving some of these seemingly easy access points! There's freedom in solving struggles. The upgrade system in this game is very large and I feel like I only experienced half of it. This is a game that could benefit from a second or third playthrough but I don't intend to do that. I believe I made the game harder by being conservative, not killing as many enemies or trying to evade them. I made an already challenging game more difficult and that's on me. Don't be afraid to use health, and don't be afraid to use bullets because you can always fabricate these things as well though the recycling system. If I had known that earlier in the game I would have been much more liberal. Yes, the game is difficult but it's much more manageable than I previously thought. Overall I am excited for a sequel if the rumor is true. Although this game is not perfect, this is a great starting point. A cerebral game mixed with sci Fi action horror in space are few and far between nowadays. This game hits high many notes for outer space fans, enthusiasts of deep lore centered around cause and effect or for gamers who want to feel the adrenaline rush of tough alien enemies as you engage in problem solving and investigation missions. This is probably a 9.0 game for many people. Yet I didn't feel that ever. Still, I can completely understand that sentiment. I can understand why many people would think this game is a nine or more. However, despite me not giving this game a 9/10, I know it is a strong game. An 8.5/10. During moments of frustration, I would consider it an 8, but that is likely a result of my conservativeness. This is not an 8 game. It's more. It's an 8.5/10 and possibly more for certain people. There's some room to grow for this series, and if there is to be a sequel, I want to grow with it. I'm intrigued by this game, moreso now in my after-thought of it all, as if maybe...maybe I missed a whole bunch of lore, or side quests. It's a bizarre feeling. It's a testament to the breadth of the game but perhaps it is what also what holds it back from the best of the best. Whichever the case, I do know I enjoyed the experience. I completed a lot of the game's content beyond the main story and it continued to engage me further until I reached its end. I hope you reach it too. Prey. 8.5/10.

TLDR; 8.5/10. Good sci fi outer space action horror game.

It's in my top ten. Game didn't make any money. So I doubt a sequel will happen. And some of the OG talent from that Studio has departed in recent years.

what 'build' did you do? i went with fully upgraded shotgun + combat focus + stealth. it mostly worked well, as long as i had shotgun shells to spare. for far too long i struggled to have enough ammo because i didn't think to recycle weapons i didn't need/

how did you feel about the combat in zero gravity? i found those parts to be insufferably frustrating. really enjoyed the game otherwise.

Well the game amazing and not many shooters even come close to how good it was, the biggest drawback is the lack of diverse enemies. Everything being black blobs or centuries was kind of meh. Same criticism I hold for resident evil 7

I also maxed out the shotgun toward the end. I also had repair and hacking skills pretty high. I invested a point or two into telekinesis and stuff like that but didn't find it of much use. I focused on avoiding combat and trying to sneak but I think that's what ended up frustrating me. I should have just been more liberal and started dealing out more damage with the shotgun, gloo gun, q beam and pistol. It's not the thing I didn't use these weapons but I could have used them a shit-ton more.

I realize you can definitely play this game multiple times and pick different upgrades. Did you try the morph skill tree?

i thought i was going to go with repair + hacking. in one early fight with a Typhon i saw a damaged turret in the room, so I invested some points into repair and fixed it. then the Typhon killed the thing in like .... 2 seconds. it didn't help at all. and since neuromods were scarce, especially in the beginning, i reloaded a previous save and went another route.

did you feel the game was stingy with the neuromods? because i kinda did.

negative. i did no Typhon mods at all. something made me feel like doing that was "bad". it made for a pretty amusing choice during the ending, though.

Now that I think of it, yes the game is kind of stingy with Neuromods in the sense that you couldn't complete the entire trees without creating a whole bunch that fabricator.

But for my playstyle, one who tried to avoid combat, I thought there was enough for me.

But I think your criticism is valid. Somebody else mentioned the lack of enemy variety which I also think is a valid criticism.

I feel like I died so many times and that it was almost...unfair. Did you also feel that way too? Like I'd be running to do a task and just before I hit the button for the task I got killed.

in games with limited resources, i'm pretty paranoid about "getting stuck" (getting to a point and not having enough resources to complete it with no way to get more). this fear lead me to replay sections over and over until i completed them with minimal damage taken and minimal ammo used. so i'd replay a section until i 'got it right' and then quickly save. i abused the ever loving crap out of quick save/load. in hindsight, this really dampened my enjoyment of the game. and i finished with like 20+ medkits so i definitely didn't need to play that way <_<

I'm the same. Never used a med kit. Had like 38 at the end. Replayed sections like crazy. love the quick save feature.

i played it, got way into it, but got bored toward the end

u just reminded me it is hogging up all the disc space on my primary hard drive.

maybe time 2 just give up and delete. i douibt i will ever replay, and finishing right now would be meaningless.

I just started it and it feels just as clunky as Alien Isolation with no kind of payoff

yet, Im only an hour into the game honestly and Ive been meaning to revisit but it took a backseat when Pathologic 2 appeared
