digitally de-age gandalf to a teenager and he looks worse than xavier in xmen 3

i'm not holding out any hope this will be any good. just seems like the hobbit again, but with almost no real material to go off of. they also seem to be throwing in the token diversity stuff as well but not opting for actual diversity (asian, native americans, middle easterners, etc)

I wonder if Howard Shore is really returning. Officially, there were only talks last year. The teaser got me super hyped because they used his music.

But this trailer didn't. I hope they do get him since he's amazing and kind of makes LotR, LotR. As for the trailer, eh, it looks a tad bit generic. Will definitely check it.

I see this happen to beloved sci-fi/fantasy all the time. Said thing gets ruined, but this time I actually care about the universe this is going to happen to now.

Its not like they are even being subtle about this. They flat out said they were going to try to weave modern day issues into their show.

They spent a billion on this and this is the best we get? Still, I'll wait till the first episode or two to fully judge, since it's still very early.

i think a big part is the music. it just felt super generic. if they could have done something that sounded like the movies it probably would be better since it would show that it's the same world more

Oh yeah, the trailer music is super generic lol.

That's missing and personally, I feel like the connection to the movies is missing. I just expected something grander with half a billion for season 1 + half a billion for the rights.

Idk, both the MCU and Star Wars (which is 45 years old) are actually flourishing by keeping things connected.

Those smalls things might make or break it for fans. If you're casually into it, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Even as bad as the Hobbit movies are, I still like watching them because they have a similar feel to the Lord of the Rings movies. If at the end of the day, they establish that in some form, then this will be great. But the trailer doesn't seem too enticing just yet.

The movies are my favorite films of all time, but I havent read the books so I guess ill just remain pure and enjoy myself.

The Hobbit was including stuff from other works, stuff that happened during the events of The Hobbit as Tolkien wrote later on to connect to LOTR and flesh out his world.

It also had some new stuff but honestly I think it was still fitting into Tolkiens work.

Yeah, I dunno. Legolas doing that bullshit "running up falling rocks" is probably not what Tolkien had in mind.

I just hope there's an actual story and it doesn't drag on. LotR is especially boring when there's no plot or purpose

Yeah, it's dumb that Legolas becomes OP and Gimli becomes a joke as the movies progress.

Not really feeling it from what I hear and this trailer. Tolkien is hard to get right and I think the LOTR trilogy was just a fluke in that regard and even it had issues. The Hobbit movies certainly didn't feel right. This is kinda leaning in that direction.

And I don't know why it's such a bad thing that fans have issues with stuff now. It's like almost any sort of negativity is labeled as just nerds being whiny. Yeah, there are plenty of whiny people out there, but there are many of us who may not like a certain thing, but won't go hating and complaining about it all the time. I just don't get why fans of a certain series/franchise/etc. can't be peeved that X feels different.

Yeah. I'm fine with Gimli being a bit of comic relief, but they made him a joke and he sort of reminded me at times of the dwarf guy in the Dungeons and Dragons movie.

Thanks for reminding me if that, I had actually forgotten about that stupid bullshit in TBOTFA. Legolas did crazy stuff in TLOTR as well but the rocks thing was jumping the shark.

For the record, I haven't made a judgment on this. Not till I see a full trailer. But people tend to assume any nerd that complains about something, is doing it for conservative reasons. And that is not true

definitely looks great budget wise.
