But it is also kind of sad how homophobic the vast majority of people were back then. The 80's were over 30 years ago and that same vast majority has changed significantly.

This is why I am saying that the left is becoming more Trumpy.

Once one side engages in blatant bad faith and experiences a lot of success with it then it kind of forces the hand of the other side. Either engage in bad faith in return or just continually lose political power.

I have zero optimism about politics in the US moving forward and I just try to have simple positive interactions with people in public that have nothing to do with politics. It's the only way I'm gonna keep my sanity.

Oh and try to stay away from this and the politics board, because people have obviously had their brains melted at this point. I add people from these boards to my ignore list everyday and that helps at least.

as for what Neil Young said, the 80s was a different time and there was a lot of fear and uncertainty over the AIDS epidemic back then, especially because so little about it was known.

I don't listen to the guy but I just don't get the vitriol against someone who just shoots the shit with people on all sides of the cultural landscape. Does Rogan always encourage his listeners to take the advice of his more controversial guests?

I doubt very much he still feels that way. That was a very long g time ago and society was different then. It was normal to be like that back then. I'd be shocked if he hasn't changed his mind

Turns out that treating every opinion and belief as equally valid just gives the controversial, harmful, factually untrue ones more power.

People aren't saying "Wow people believe some ridiculous things out there!". They're saying "Wow crazy how you don't hear these things a lot from the mainstream media! These guys make a lot of good points! Thank you, Joe for giving them a platform!"

I don't think a single person is mad about what Neil Young did. It's just hilarious what he did. Idk if he intended to or not, but a big spectacle was made of his departure. He could of just spoke with them quietly and been removed, but it sounds like he made a big public display of "it's me or him."

I mean, no business would choose Young over Rogan. One is culturally relevant and the other isn't.

It's sung from the perspective of an ignorant individual though. Allegedly, the lyrics are based off of an actual conversation that was overheard by the songwriter. Some people were unloading TVs off a truck and conversing about how easy it was to be a musician. If that story is true, the homophobic remark likely stemmed from that conversation.
