Holy shit, the dumbfounded face youtube thumbnail video phenomenon is ridiculous.
It's like giant baby adults posting first moments of everything.
Babies first time with this, babies first time with that. Baby doesn't believe this just happened, baby doesn't believe that just happened.
Fucking hell.

Good mythical morning instantly came to mine. Seems like almost every thumbnail they have their mouth gaping wide open.

It's so you know that you are supposed to be shocked and surprised at what happens in the video (you wouldn't know without it)

Some of these a holes are now putting pie charts up of viewers subscribers, unsubscribed.
They can literally stick that pie chart where the sun don't shine.

I saw a video describing ways to get more views. The biggest one was having your face in the thumbnail, bonus points for making a face. Second was to have an arrow pointing at something, anything, even at nothing at all. Just the presence of a face and an arrow boosts the views any video gets. >_>

Where are the picture examples

I watch youtube all day, so my algorithm is starting to know more about me than I do. The people I watch that use those thumbnails have admitted it's to game the system because it's statically true that they get more clicks. But they're actually pretty down to earth and chill for their video. Even watching someone like Leon Lush who uses those thumbnails, it doesn't fill my algorithm with them, since I watch so much other stuff too. I only see them if I go in areas not effected by my algorithm. Just keep using it of you're going to and it'll sort itself out

i actually don't see too many clickbait thumbnails in my related videos. if you don't click on them, they'll eventually start getting filtered

And given how much youtube hates its creators, they need to ensure they can actually turn a profit. Many often have others who rely on them as well and not all can rely on sponsors or patreon.

You can hate it all you want, but blame youtube, not the content creators. I agree all the clickbait is stupid, but a large number of them who use it are pretty open it's just to game the algorithm and then make their standard content.

The videos they get to make complaining are free easy content alone if they can rile their following up.

Those spam videos for money creators are happy to participate in the worsening of the site and rake in a few bucks but they freak out when the site's drastic or sudden changes affect them. Contort to any shape if it means the people using the site can't get your obnoxious mid-screech expression out of their recommended feed with a heap of ads stashed behind the image and surrounded by... pretty much nothing worth watching. If there's blame to be distributed they're getting an equal amount to the site itself.

I never denied youtube does what it does for the advertisers benefit. Nothing it does is to help the viewer or creator, but if creators want to maintain a platform and income, they have to do what they have to do. Only a lucky few can defy this with how youtube has purposely built themselves.

And the real solution is to just watch the millions of other content creators who don't do what you think is an utterly unforgiveable sin. And if a five second "like and subscribe etc." at the end of a video really bothers you then I dunno, that sounds like a you problem. I manage to just ignore it from the ones I watch that do it. Several do shitty clickbaity thumbnails, but then I'm not sure I pay any attention to the thumbnail of those I'm subscribed to anyway as they aren't targeted to subscribers, but the algorithm and getting new people to click. And their content doesn't reflect the clickbait thumbnail, as those that maintain that idiocy into their videos are pretty awful, I agree.

That might as well be a me problem. I dislike that it's a me problem and that people are so excited to watch ads and be boxed into a narrow range of recommendations with the occasional random algorithm-boosted video thrown in but seeing people stick up for it like this leaves a bad taste and I feel like I should say something at least.

Going looking for new Youtube content is usually a fruitless endeavour and you're going to be sifting through a lot of the same glorified spammers and so it's gotten very rare that I'll find a new channel I actually like. I do like to go looking for new music occasionally but other than that I'm mostly carried by the fact I've been on the site long enough to just remember a pretty large volume of users and videos that I can go check in on.
I miss old Youtube when its old favorite game "Ah fuck where'd they hide the new comment notification this time?" was the biggest irritation you had to contend with.
