I dislike that it's a me problem and that people are so excited to watch ads and be boxed into a narrow range of recommendations with the occasional random algorithm-boosted video thrown in but seeing people stick up for it like this leaves a bad taste and I feel like I should say something at least. Going looking for new Youtube content is usually a fruitless endeavour and you're going to be sifting through a lot of the same glorified spammers and so it's gotten very rare that I'll find a new channel I actually like. I do like to go looking for new music occasionally but other than that I'm mostly carried by the fact I've been on the site long enough to just remember a pretty large volume of users and videos that I can go check in on. I miss old Youtube when its old favorite game "Ah fuck where'd they hide the new comment notification this time?" was the biggest irritation you had to contend with. I agree, but I'm not sure if anything can be done to combat it at this point. Who else is going to bare the cost to try and go against Google/Youtube in a market they have utter control over?
