Basically rhe biggest fantasy author in history who has yet to get a big adaptation. Came around in the mid 2000s and has had some huge, extremely beloved series.

Ah i like to read but im more of a sci fi guy. Not familiar with fantasy.

I think it's because he wants some control and input, which he understands he's just waiting for the right chance. He's got some tv writing credits now so maybe that'll help?

If you want to try him, you could start out with Skyward, YA book about a colony of humans defending themselves from extinction

He just needs a TV/movie adaption. Honestly I'm surprised the Mistborn adaptions never went anywhere

Ive only gotten through a book and a half of Abercrombie, that is something that rarely happens for me.

I love Sanderson to death, but yeah, I agree with this. Just not his style.

I was actually more impressed by James islington than I was by Abercrombie. Rarely see him mentioned.

Mistborn or Stormlight will inevitably get an adaptation. The way all the streaming services are looking for content, means somebody will throw 100 million bucks at it.

I did the Licanius trilogy last month or so. It was pretty good.

Mistborn deserves a tv series at the very least. its weird that it hasnt gotten one yet

Stormlight series is far from complete and is probably not going to finish for another 20+ years at this rate. 6 more books, 2-3 years per book, with another Mistborn trilogy planned between book 5 and 6 of Stormlight iirc.

No news on a Mistborn update as far as I know. He's working on a Script for a Mistborn movie, I don't believe anyone has bought it though, it's for pitching to other people, unless he gets enough money to make his own movie studio.

Stormlight on the other hand is being worked on as a TV show with Dan Mintz and DMD, although it's still in the more hypothetical stage, he thinks it will get released as a Premium cable show.

Not sure if most of his book series can even be made into movies, so much would have to be cut and make them bad. Or go the two movies per book route?

He thinks the first mistborn movie could be made into a movie well enough and has ideas about what sort of changes would need to be made to make it work as one.

Also, is Terry Goodkind as terrible a writer as people say? And is the Dresden Files as pulpy and commerical as it seems?

I had no idea he was a Mormon. Out of all the flavors of Christianity, I respect Mormonism the least because it is the most transparently false. Read about the "controversy" surrounding the Book of Abraham as an example. In particular, Sanderson ties himself into some knots when he tries to explain away the problem of evil.

If you're going to try the Dresden Files, start with the 4th book, Summer Knight. That book and every one after it is perfectly solid. The first few were very rough, and Jim Butcher always makes sure to remind readers about relevant details they might have missed if they haven't read every book. As a character, Dresden is immature and the books can be kind of corny sometimes, but I'm a pretty big fan.

He's pretty open about what's happening in his yearly "state of the sanderson" blogs.

He mentioned DMG having a script for it in the 2017, and 2018 ones. While 2019 one has him talking about making his own script, and the 2020 has him confirm he has started working on one.
