Why would you buy them all at once? Just get one to see if you like it.
Cause when you do a thing, you gotta go all-in!

Not sure if most of his book series can even be made into movies, so much would have to be cut and make them bad. Or go the two movies per book route?
TV shows are really the route to go for fantasy series. And since is already is working with Amazon on Wheel Of Time (in a limited role) he may have a chance in the future. Though they may not want another fantasy series right away.

I'd love an animated Stormlight Archive series, something in a similar style to Arcane on Netflix could work really well

Why is her safehand uncovered? Such indecency
Man, idk nothing about no stormlight or its standards of decency. I was asked to draw something about it and all I figured out from a quick Google search is there's a blue fairy girl and a very canon department store called JCAlethi.

Sure. He has a bunch of "safe" fantasy books that could go mainstream fairly easily in a time where streaming services are gobbling up content.

But that may not be a good thing for him. Brandon Sanderson is an excellent author, but is very tied to a specific kind of fantasy that could easily be labeled with his name. Which I think would not only greatly limit his options, but also the people willing to watch or read anything by him.

Frankly, I think the Brandon Sandersons of the world are what streamers like Netflix need more of, someone who is prolific in writing reliably good series, series that won't rock the boat ala GoT or Squid Game, but will be well received if done according to his vision.

People still care about fantasy books? Wtf?

Also, is Terry Goodkind as terrible a writer as people say? And is the Dresden Files as pulpy and commerical as it seems?
Terry Goodkind wrote (plagiarized) creepy rapey Wheel of Time with (some of) the proper nouns changed.

Dresden Files is pulpy as fuck but it's not commercial. Butcher's solid and it's quite probably my favorite series.

I had no idea he was a Mormon. Out of all the flavors of Christianity, I respect Mormonism the least because it is the most transparently false. Read about the "controversy" surrounding the Book of Abraham as an example. In particular, Sanderson ties himself into some knots when he tries to explain away the problem of evil.

He's a pretty good author - and a good author should have at least the "illusion" that their beliefs are not present, or showing in their literature.

However, I think he'll find it difficult to get traction in the TV world - because of his beliefs, I mean whenever he's brought up in literature message boards the fact he's a Mormon is always brought up. While a little hypocritical, since I brought it up - I only provided it as evidence of him not having much luck in TV.

GRRM politics line-up almost perfectly with Hollywood's, and he worked in Hollywood before, so... yeah. GRRM is asked in an interview about his beliefs, he can be pretty open and honest - because they align.... but Sanderson? I mean, imagine an interview - he's covered pretty "safe" topics in his little essay, and probably gone over them dozens of times for controversy, but in an interview on TV, you don't really have that time.

This topic is a bad influence. Just impulse bought the first 6 books in Mistborn and the first 3 in Stormlight. Only ever read his Wheel of Time books. You guys better not have given me a dud!
I can guarentee a good time with the first Mistborn book. Never read anything else in your purchase, but I've heard nothing but praise for Stormlight.

I think Warbreaker and Elantris are the only two I wouldn't immediately recommend.

Warbreaker because I think you kinda need to be into Sanderson's style to enjoy it and Elantris because it's just not great.

Elantris is awesome imo, but man is it slow.

I adored Warbreaker, in fact it has one if my favorite Sanderson scenes in it, but you're probably right.

Agreed.

Great book but if I think you'll like it you've already decided to read the dude's bibliography.

My first impression of Sanderson was negative. I was a Wheel of Time fan and I found the author switch to be extremely jarring. Honestly I'm not really sure why, it's not like I even loved RJ's writing really. His many little writing tics kinda irritated me, and I burned out in my first readthrough on the boring stuff in the latter books. But the little subtle differences in writing style and character behavior just took me out of the story and were like an itch under my skin. I'm now on my second readthrough of his WoT books, and it's not bothering me so much anymore. Maybe it's just easier to distance myself from it now idk. But I'm of course aware of how unfair it is to judge him for coming into an impossible situation like that and not being someone else. I'm curious to see him in his own world with his own characters.
