What years are considered classic? Aladdin is 20 years old now.

Pinocchio is dope, but Dumbo is probably the most emotionally resonant. Fucking elephant just wants his mom, man.

Wasn't the last hand drawn one the Princess and the Frog? Does that count?

Either way, obviously the Lion King.

Nobody knows the Princess and the Frog. It should be somewhat iconic.

Mulan. There has yet to be a single Disney protag to have the resolve to outright murder their antagonist.

I want to say Fantasia, but it's hard to consider it a "movie" when it's a collection of silent animated shorts set to classical music.

Surprising to me, I think I'll have to go with Bambi. The background visuals are beautiful and the story has a lot of depth beyond what the cutesy character designs would suggest. It was also Walt's personal favorite and a major influence on later animated movies such as The Lion King and The Land That Time Forgot.

What is the time frame for this?

When TC said hand drawn, I was thinking in the strictest sense of hand drawn: Sleeping Beauty and beforehand. If we're going with anything 2D, I'd have to go with The Lion King. I know that's a basic answer, but it's a great movie. There's a reason it's popular.

IMO classic Disney means anything pre renaissance Disney.

Basically this means anything before The Little Mermaid.

I'm going to say Robin Hood but Peter Pan is a close second.

If we're counting all hand-drawn films, then Beauty and the Beast.
If it has to be pre-Renaissance, then 101 Dalmatians.

While it pains me to do so, I think I would still have to place Bambi slightly ahead of Robin Hood. The fight between Bambi and Ronno was more intense than anything that would have been allowed in Robin Hood.

That's the problem with Disney adventure: they're in a perpetual state of holding back. Beauty and the Beast gets a good fight scene. The Lion King gets a good fight scene. Aladdin and Robin Hood actively pull their punches because they're "Disney adventure." They don't want to come across as too violent.

Robin Hood is more nostalgic for me though and I have seen it more times than Bambi. It's still one of the more "comfy" Disney movies to revisit again and again.
