But he says his heart almost failed a second time when he got the bill from his health care odyssey the other day.
I opened it and said holy [bleep]! Flor says.

The total tab for his bout with the coronavirus: $1.1 million. $1,122,501.04, to be exact. All in one bill thats more like a book because it runs to 181 pages.

The bill is technically an explanation of charges, and because Flor has insurance including Medicare, he wont have to pay the vast majority of it. In fact because he had COVID-19, and not a different disease, he might not have to pay anything a quirk of this situation Ill get to in a minute.

Broke my leg last October and around December a specialist I was seeing thought going to an Aircast was the next move.

You can buy an Aircast off of Amazon for like $100. Had I decided to get an Aircast from the doctor I was seeing it would have cost $600. For the exact same product.

It's amazing how easy it is to just magic hundreds of dollars into existence in the healthcare industry. Total fucking scam.

I pray for all my American brothers and sisters who are victimized by this monstrous system.

if i had to pay out of pocket last summer for a visit to the ER. it would've costed me 300$ for crutches and X-rays.
i had the chance to go to the critical care in the morning but my uncle said to go when closed.

and debt should definitely be able to be legally passed on to family and even friends, in every country.
it is super unfair that someone dying means debtors don't get their money. they are OWED that money.
even if the debt is 99% made up.

If I recall correctly, the cost of keeping him alive was going to be high in nearly any first-world country just because he was in intensive care for so long and nearly died. The fact that medicine in the U.S. is so goddamn expensive just compounded what was already going to be expensive.
