Yea I never understood why family guy is this massive thing and American Dad was actually sold off or whatever to TBS cause Fox didn't want it

The first few seasons were good not amazing, but it eventually finds its footing and gets AMAZING.

I didn't even know it got sold, but it literally just had a gag where Roger made a stupid pun and winked while the screen showed "TBS very funny" and I fucking died

Season 2 through 5 of American Dad! is up there with some of the best animated series ever. After that though it drops off pretty hard with them relying too heavily on edgy shock humor. When it got picked up by TBS the quality instantly went way up though and it was really good again. Still not as a good as its peak though.

I love how some of the episodes seem much more like stream of consciousness kind of nonsense, it works so well for the format.

I think I remember hearing somewhere that American Dad is actually more profitable for Seth MacFarlane than Family Guy, because he was able to negotiate a more lucrative deal with it. I can't verify that, though.

I do prefer AD to FG, because the former relies far, far less on interchangeable jokes.

The longer it goes the better he gets. Once the show starts being more self aware about it I love it.

Yeah, Roger is pretty annoying, majority of the jokes aren't funny the characters suck especially stan. I tried to get into it but I'd rather watch the cleveland show

Roger and all the characters are either great or serve their purpose well. Season 2-5 Roger might be one of my favorite characters ever. After season 5 I don't care for him too much. They basically just turn him into a murderous sociopath as part in their edgy kind of humor.

Once it hit TBS I never remembered to watch it, but it definitely was a top tier show

One of my favorite jokes from just about any series is when Roger is about to blow out the candles on his birthday cake and before he does it one of Steves pubes just lands on the cake. I freaking lost it

Once it found its legs, it became a great show.

They re-air the shit out of it on TBS and Adult Swim, so very easy to stockpile them on your DVR.

Principal Lewis is perfect for bits and as an accessory, but he's not complex or well-developed enough to consistently focus on, IMO.

Oh yeah, Principal Lewis is hilarious for the most part. There was just one season where he was in every episode, and like a close friend of the Smith family, and they really played his insanity up and made it a big focus of the episode which came off as really one-note and forced.

He's amazing when he's used for jokes like these, but making a season where he's basically a main character next to the Smiths was a garbage decision. Otherwise, I like the character and I like American Dad as a show.

I feel AD handles breaking the fourth wall better, like in the Stelio Kantos episode when Francine calls and tells Stan his boss called as he's been missing days of work or when Steve questions why Lewis is "an educator"

I think the opposite, once it stopped having their plot points be about conservative/liberal it got better.
