Im aware that I get to catch the legendary beasts.

I'd say it's a shame that's already spoiled but considering N in gen 5 and probably some other games, I guess there's substantially less novelty to trainers in the main story having legendaries nowadays.
I still pretty fondly remember that 0-100 moment when one of Colosseum's bosses first sent one out. I like that they temper your expectations by giving the first few bosses fairly mundane shadow Pokemon.

Save stated in the middle of Mt.Battle. Everything in Pyrite Town was great because of the setting and tone. This Mt.Battle section is not as good cuz its just a gauntlet of 10 battles in a row. No exploring a dungeon or soaking in the world.

Wasnt expecting Entei that soon. I feel as though Im still in the early game, early-mid. Is that accurate?

No one expects the Entei.

From what I recall, no.

It's not. It just shows how dangerous they are.

I think the Shadow Remoraid weirdly being level 20 was supposed to be some kind of meta-joke seeing as the other Cipher Grunt was using a Shadow Mantine.

Also, Im going ahead with my plan of hacking in a bunch of rare candies to allow myself to rotate out team members easily. Its more fun that way.

Yeah, if you head down the canyon in Pyrite Town you will arrive in the Under.

Lol yeah, they aren't all winners.

You do get something for snagging all the Shadows though.

This Vileplume is haxxing the f*** outta me.
Stun Spore+Attract, and Entei missed Fire Blast 3 times in a row. By the time I switched in Umbreon to use Taunt, I was already Paralyzed and Infatuated.

Now I gotta catch this Suicune with a half-dead team -_-

Shadow Pokmon really need to start off with at least 1 move on top of Shadow Rush. Imagine catching an Entei or Suicune only to have them be dead weight

I wish a new colluesem/xd game would be made. The region is cool and i'd like a remake with all the pokemon and moves. Add somw pokemon stadium and battle fronteir stuff and we have a masterpiece

XD fixed this issue thankfully.

Am I missing out on much by not doing the Pyrite/Phenac Colloseum challenges? Or Mt.Battle? A bunch of battles in a row with no dialogue or exploration is not appealing to me

EXP and some shadow Pokemon oh and legendaries on Mt Battle eventually iirc.

are the challenges the ones where you collect disks with little numbers on them and then they're these very specific battle situations? because those are really cool imo (if you like pokemon battles of course), they're extremely pared down and are basically puzzle games

Like there was a story event where I needed to win the Pyrite tournament to gain access to Mirror Bs hideout. I got TM Toxic and some money for winning, as well as obviously progressing the story. I can enter another tournament in the Colosseums at Phenac City, Pyrite Town, and The Under. As well as do Mt.Battle, which is where I fought Entei as part of the story

Catching all the Shadow Pokemon does unlock something for postgame, but in terms of main story I don't recall needing to enter those Colosseums.

This is in XD. The Colosseum challenges in this game is mostly just for tms and exp. With the occasional Shadow Poke I think?

that's only in XD.

I get that only Ruby/Sapphire were out at the time, but they couldve made more than basically just Johto Pokemon available. Hell, FRLG didnt even exist yet, give us some oddball Kanto Pokemon people dont use much like Shadow Ponyta, Koffing, Parasect or Poliwhirl. Im out here chasing after Ledian and Stantler.

IIRC, you use DNA samples in the lab at some point to progress further.

everyone is great but Ampharos is pretty much just a TBolt machine, and is slow enough that it consistently eats too many hits. Im assuming I fight Ein and catch his Raikou, so I might swap them out. Or having a Flygon seems attractive, too

Judging by the Megaman-style boss rush, Im in the endgame. So why did I just encounter a Shadow Delibird -_-

This second Dakim fight was tough, protect/EQ spam and tanky Pokemon like Wishcash and Claydol.

Overall, if I actually am nearing the end, this game was shorter than expected. Not super short, by any means, but Id say its less than half as long as the gba or DS titles

There's quite a bit to do postgame, ie more Shadow Pokemon, a new area to explore.

Ill explore the new area and do any postgame missions/story events, but Im not looking for 100% completion so I wont bother with catching extra shadow Pokmon. Ive caught every maingame shadow so far, though

I was expecting the story structure to be:

Intro stuff in Phenac
Stop Team Snagem in Pyrite or something
Team Cipher appears and is an even bigger threat

I dont understand why the Colosseum was built the bad guys want to show exciting battles so they get investor money? Wtf? And the shadow Pokmon just make battles more exciting?

Espeon was already one-shotting everything with Psybeam, but it just learned Psychic

This is basically the Elite 4, but with no breaks to heal inbetween

At least they had the courtesy to auto-heal your team before fighting Nascour. My team is in the high 40s and his are mid-50s

Up to you if you want to use this trick, but I'm going to offer it incase you do:

If you want "Unlimited Masterballs" you can throw one with your 1st pokemon, then switch the Masterball to a different slot in your inventory with your second one. This causes you to throw the Masterball, but not lose it so you can do it again. This works for all balls.

Loved the game, hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Just used the Master Ball on Metagross cuz it has a catch rate of 3. The final boss (I was spoiled) has a Shadow TTar, but it has a catch rate of 45. Didnt see your post about how the glitch worked.

I knew about Slaking and the skill swap Slowking prior to going into the fight, but my Umbreon wasnt out and ready to Taunt before it could happen. Regardless, beat the game.

-Shorter than expected

-I was told going in the game was hard, so I was always alert during battles. I used moves like Reflect and Taunt way more than I wouldve in any other mainline Pokmon game. As well as switching a lot more often. If I played this when I was younger and only valuing damaging moves, this game wouldve destroyed me. If youre old/experienced enough, and dont underestimate the game, its not as hard as its reputation suggests

-I understand the value of leaving things unsaid, but I dont think it works well here. You could keep Wess defection from Team Snagem the same, it works there. We dont need it to be like Cecil expositing his thoughts like in FF4. But I wouldve liked more elaboration on the Legendary Beasts, and what the endgame goal for the villains was. Wouldve been cool to encounter more of Team Snagem and Gonzap during the main game, but it seems like I can return to their hideout as post-game content

-The best part of the game was everything up to the Miror B, fight, imo. Not saying the rest of the game was bad, its not. But I like how you have access to only a specifically curated list of Pokmon, and their levels and movesets are totally fixed. You cant just muscle through and overpower everything. Also the vibe in Pyrite Town and The Under reminded me of the first couple hours of Final Fantasy 7.
