Still in Phenac City around the intro. The music is beautiful

The Phenac City theme, in particular. Was expecting this game to have a grittier vibe, not angelic harp music

I like the OST, but the overworld tracks make me sleepy AF!

Electrode (I saw from the battle mode), Koffing, Grimer these fainting animations are too funny XD

Colosseum was a fantastic Pokemon game.

The gen 1 and 2 mons are ripped from Stadium 2.

I liked how every battle was a doubles match. It would be neat if mainline games let you set different formats like that as a default unless your opponent only has one pokeyman or something. Doubles, triples, rotation; they have all these funky gimmicks and you only use them against like ten trainers across the game.

But back on topic, the normal battle theme was rad.

I used to just run around the town listening to that theme, it's the best! Plus the Pokemon center music is awesome too

Probably my first pokemon game if i recall. Insanly easy though, you can solo probably half the game with umbrella, and most of it with espeon. Since I think psychic was still OP then.

Which made the game pretty easy aside from maybe 3 or so battles in the main story. Then there's the 100 man gauntlet. Which seems challenging at first. Until you realize you can just run back and forth to save after each battle. It'll take a while though, especially late in the run. But I was just paranoid to do it.

How does this game work compared to the mainline games?

Oh yeah, this was like the best part of the game. Fuck catching legitimately. There are barely enough fights in the game to level up, then you hafta catch legendary pokeymans while also fending off a boss trainer's team? Bullshit. Eat a master ball.

only double battles, no wild Pokmon, and only a specific roster of pokemon you can choose them. You get them by stealing from other trainers, but only certain ones

and no gyms, its a traditional jrpg structure

the twins, makuhita and Bayleef. I just started.

Tag. I love the gamecube games.

Also, this is my first time using Dolphin. I found a gecko cheat that enables proper Widescreen with the HUD adjusted and stuff. Is there something like that to make the game 60fps? I can speed it up super fast using Dolphins own settings, but the music gets sped up along with it.

I usually box the Umbreon and keep the Espeon. Also it took me several playthroughs before I realized you can also pick one of the other Johto starters to snag instead of Bayleef.

Ralts walking animation after getting hit

Misdreavus is hilarious for the early game.

Oh man, you think Ralts damage animation is bad? Wait till you see Togepi's fainting animation.

The music that plays inside the Pyrite Colosseum sounds familiar did it get reused in Black/White?

coming off of X/Y and Su/Mo, these animations are so full of life

Battle music in the colloseum is awesome. Each round gets a different music track

Randomly going into Hyper Mode would be a lot less annoying if it didnt waste a turn >_>

QUAGSIRE learned Surf. In a game with only double battles. With gen 3 mechanics.

Oh yeah, you learn some fun moves once you start purifying.

You kind of have to babysit shadow pokemon in colosseum because they constantly go into hyper mode until you unlock their heart more and shadow rush is a useless attack. XD at least adds better shadow attacks.

Im saved in the evil team hideout for now. And yeah the shadow Pokmon concept presents a couple neat ideas. Limited pool of Pokmon is the obvious one, but it also creates a unique sense of progression. Instead of leveling up normally, your Pokmon remain the same level and slowly become more useful as they open their heart and learn new moves.

I know that Ill be able to purify shadow Pokmon soon though so idk how prevalent that shadow progression will be moving forward

I heard Colosseum wasn't even originally the main mode. It was the side mode to the usual Stadium stuff.

Mantine would be cool to use, but Im dead set on using the Quag. Meditite has a hilarious walking back after getting hit animation as well

I was expecting Mirror B to have a team of Lombre for this fight, not Ludicolo this early

Rain Dance, Rain Dish, Swift Swim, Leech Seed, Mega Drain, etc. This guy aint playing around!

Umbreons Taunt and Toxic is putting in work, tho.

Looking back, me being young and not knowing much about pokemon mechanics, the gamecube games were so brutal to me. Especially the bosses.

Ah, Colosseum. I've been reminiscing it and XD lately. I especially loved the Battle CD puzzles & Battle Bingo.

Lol I remember doing the Metronome Battle CD like 10 times in a row, and RNG worked against me every single time. >_>

Saved the game for now, my next step is go to Ruis home town in the north.

Agate Village, I swear Ive heard this music somewhere else before as well. Especially the first 5 seconds l

Im shocked the game doesnt outright tell you how to purify Pokmon. Youd think thered be a scenario after saving Ruis grandpa walking you through the purification process. Anyways, I wanted to use Hariyama this playthrough, but a level 38 Hitmontop? That sounds way better. Intimidate and Fake Out are great traits for doubles.

I use both. It's not logical but the game hands them over so early and so willingly.
The Hitmontop is one of my favorite things about the game. Are there even any other Pokemon games where getting one isn't pure tedium or a huge divergence from the main story?

Honestly I feel a big spoiled for choice, I thought itd be slim pickings. There are like 8-9 Pokmon I have that seem useful, and Im aware that I get to catch the legendary beasts. I might just hack in a bunch of rare candies, not to abuse, but to allow myself to rotate team members without worrying about grinding to get them caught up.

the game's soundtrack is so good in general, I love how phenac city has that moment partway through where it changes to a totally different song. it andd pyrite town are my favourites probably
