i remember hearing it got a lot of accolades, but then people also say its just a polished Assassin's Creed with samurai in terms of game play and it gets boring.

Yes it is amazing. It was my runner up GOTY behind Streets of Rage 4. It's got some generic open world aspects for it, but if you play on lethal which I HIGHLY recommend you do, it is a very brutal and fast paced game to play. You can do some really fun stuff in it and the game is GORGEOUS. The story is great and overall it is super super good

For me it's one of those games that is better than the sum of its parts.

Sure: on paper it's just pretty Assassin's creed. You can say there's a lot of map ticking and the stealth is too easy.

But in terms of the experience I had playing it, god I loved that game. Everything is so goddamn tight. "Pretty" is an understatement. Incredibly atmospheric.

I can't speak for the remaster, but I wanted to like that game so much more than I actually did. It was the opposite of what I said earlier for me: it had all the right parts and features to spare, but I just didn't enjoy playing it so much.

I think that was the game that made me realise I...actually do care about the plot and characters, quite a lot, and if you make a game without any of those things I just lose interest.

I say yeah, it's really fun of an open world game. While it does have the trappings of a lot of repeated side quest objectives, almost all of them reward you right away like the Kami Shrines requiring parkouring up a mountain but gives you a unique build defining charm to work with or Sword graves giving new sword handles to run around with. And some side quests including story focused ones are all unique from each other.

It's Story is good not amazing per say but enjoyable. It's combat is also solid, Archery is fun, stealth is basic but can be enjoyable too. The fact you can collect charms to help you out in any of those three aspects is quite nice and is tied to armor you collect to make builds for however you want to tackle missions is sweet. It even has a good New Game + that offers either charms to make the game harder or new gimmicks to mess around with while also rewarding you items to get cosmetics if you retackle the main story or side quests again.

It's Multiplayer modes are also fun if you can get friends or randos online to play it. Each class has a useful role and while it's main feature is a simple defense the point mode, the combat makes it fun as heck to go through with it in a group.

no, IMO.

the story felt generic, for the most part, and it had a lot of forced drama. the characters were also unremarkable.

the stealth is some of the worst that I've experienced in recent memory due to how bad the enemy AI is during such segments, and as a result, the mandatory stealth missions don't feel that fun.

the open-world format is also played out - enemy bases, checklist of stuff to see and collect, and traversing the world doesn't feel as organic as it should (it's weird how you only come across small groups of mongols every so often in a war setting).

the sword play is pretty well done, though, and the visuals are beautiful. you can also tell that the creators tried to be as respectful as they could with the setting and culture.

overall, I thought that it was a mediocre game with a pretty coat of paint.

It was a lot fo fun in the beginning. But it suffers from the same issue as a lot of open world games where you just do the same tasks over and over again. I felt compelled to do every side quest I came across and by the time I finished Act 1 of the game I was completely over powered. Every encounter plays out pretty much exactly the same and there's an ability you can get that makes you pretty much invincible. The game is gorgeous though and I liked the ending

I actually don't disagree with a single thing here but for some reason I really enjoyed the experience. Maybe because I'm a massive weeb. The gear is some of the best looking in any game ever.

It's a fun open world game that suffers from being too long and having too many pointless missions that drag out side characters' stories.

I applaud the effort, but I think what soured a lot of my experience was that it was an open-world game, and it wasn't handled in any meaningful way in that department.

if it was more linear, I might have been more forgiving.

just a part of my bias, I guess.

The only think I really don't like about it is the stealth. The maps just aren't fully realized for it a lot of the time. In other stealth games, there's pathways that will help proceed through the map all sneaky like, but here it's just not always "right."

For example, there will be a cliff you can climb next to a building, and theoretically you would be be able to jump from the cliff to the roof to keep sneaking, but instead it will be just out of reach and you'll just land on an enemy. Other games would have a direct path, like a tree branch you can run out on, jump to the roof, and follow that on to the next and so on.

It's a minor complaint, really, but it's the only one I really have. The combat is super fluid and satisfying.
