The direction is really solid. It absolutely elevates the dialogue; you get a far better feel for the personality of the character just by hearing how they speak their lines.

Some the English voice actors in Like a Dragon were trash. I usually use dubbed, but now I'm more consciously aware of how bad voice actors can be. Subtitles is how I became accustom to digesting Yakuza anyway tho, so it felt more natural anyway. I had no problem with Squid Games in English. Dubbing wasn't amazing, but it was better than some those LaD actors lol. Specifically The Main Patriarch in the beginning. Holy shit that dude sucked.

Yakuza is such a Japanese-y game that subbed is the way to go for any entry in the series. I'm not sure if 0 even has a dub.

SMT tends to get solid voice actors in any region. They got Matthew Mercer (voice of McCree, Jotaro, etc) for Walter in IV.

bad dub actors is more of an anime problem since those directions have less budget.

Like a Dragon is the first one dubbed since the original on ps2. They didn't have it on the Remake of 1 even. I own all them :3. Dunno about the Judgement series tho. Haven't gotten to those.

Leveling up is so agonizing in this game if you're playing on hard. You always want to just pump STR, but then you really want that AGI to not get shit on by a random encounter of six Mou-Ryo

agi is a shit stat

vit is only an hp bonus (there is no defense stat) but it's a lot better than agi's doing very very little and luck being a literal meme stat that only affects ailment recovery. plus it is a second damage stat for some phys skills

The agility formula stuff is kinda broken (in a bad way) but I think agility is still worth investing if even just because it's really annoying when all of your demons are faster than you

I mean cmon, everything but STR is a shit stat in this game. That's practically part of the charm. But you gotta diverge SOMEtimes.

I love when poorly-spoken demons like fouls join you in a battle, they edge up to you and chant "FRIEND! FRIEND!" Slime is actually pretty cute when he's not one shotting your team with Last Resort

magic is decent enough for at least half of the main game or more
like yeah it's worse that str eventually but early on it bulldozes pretty hard (especially with tornado) and the extra mp means more spammy broken buffs and debuffs

i literally just max str and then just max vit because the other stats basically do nothing, but when smt can be trivialized with good demons and abusing buffs/debuffs it's not that big a deal if your demi-fiend isn't all that optimal

agi basically only matters if you care about turn order

I really dug the voice acting. It was quality basically across the board, especially Chiaki. She knocked it out of the park.

Hikawa also has the perfect tone of smug indifference, IMO.

By the way, after looking it up, I do not believe MAG increases magic resistance in Nocturne.

It was considered the top hidden gem JRPG back in the day, along with games like Disgaea. Also rare, and expensive at one point, until they started reprinting them. I thought it was solid back then. Have no interest whatsoever to replay it though

as crushing as the beginning is on hard, I find these games unbelievably addictive. I no-lifed SMTV when it came out.

Just beat Matador. Sooooo satisfying.

Have you tried Soul Hacker on the 3DS? One of my favorite SMT games, that alot of people never gave a chance. It was previously an import only Sega Saturn title.

I bought SMT V, but have been playing Pokmon brilliant diamond instead, which is kind of sad...

Honestly, all the Fiends sound great, which gives it that much more juice.
