None of these answers apply to me

I have the money to cover that. Not exactly easy, and would wreck my savings

If this was medical the most I would pay is $7k which sucks but I'll get over it.

If this was something else like legal punitive fines or something I'd have to sell my entire portfolio.

Yeah I worked for a surgeon. He'd perform some huge surgery and -- without telling the patient -- have out of network contracted surgeons come in to assist him.

Patients would come back in wondering where the not-covered $10k+ bills came from

He didn't even seem to care. Doctors are just as much a part of the scam as insurance companies are

There's no technicality that they could use unless the emergency involved dental work somehow.

Out of network for me is covered if an in network doctor makes the referral. And even if I do the whole thing out of network like I have to go to an ER and don't get a choice where, the OOP max still applies. The only thing it doesn't apply to are things that are not part of my policy.

Never heard of a policy that allowed the OOP max to cover out of network providers, the premiums must be insane.

i was thinking about what that could possibly be outside of medical bills (lol America).

if you had a string of bad luck, like HVAC system dying, needing a new roof and your car dying all at once

may have to cover a 200$ computer problem soon enough.

it's been having problems since few weeks ago. if shut down it'll give hard disk error. have to take apart the hard drive cord and reinsert to get it to load properly.

really old computer (10 years old).

The premiums are high but I don't pay anything for them. I am free (100% covered by my employer) on my own policy. Adding family would cost a lot but I don't have any.

That said I was recently reading through the fine print and not literally every out of network provider is considered covered. If I ran into this hypothetical $30,000 emergency in like, China or some shit, I'm turbo fucked.
