A man was crushed to death by his own car in what appears to be a freak accident at a McDonalds drive-thru in Canada.
The CBC reports police officers and fire rescue services responded to a call at a McDonalds restaurant in Vancouver on Wednesday morning. Surveillance video showed a male driver dropping an object out of his vehicle while paying for his order and, when he got out to pick it up, the vehicle rolled forward and pinned him between the vehicle door and a structural piece of the restaurant, killing him.

Efforts were made by first responders to revive the man, but tragically, he died on scene, said Vancouver Police Constable Tania Visintin. This is an absolutely heartbreaking scenario. Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of this man.

An investigation is ongoing, but Visintin told 680 News that it appeared to be a freak accident.

She also told the Edmonton City News that victim services will be provided for McDonalds staffers, who witnessed the fatal incident.

People arent used to seeing this type of incident happen, especially at your workplace, Visintin said. I would assume everyone is shaken up.

According to People magazine, the mishap occurred when the unidentified man dropped a credit card or bank card out the car window and attempted to retrieve it. The Charlotte Observer reports people have been killed in similar scenarios in the past, including a man who was killed at a Jack in the Box drive-thru in St. Louis in 2018 and another at a Tim Hortons in Ontario in 2010.

The Vancouver Police Departments Collision Investigation Unit and the B.C. Coroners Service are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who might have captured it on dash-cam footage while driving in the area to call investigators at 604-717-3012.

I heard about this in the radio. Really freak accident. I couldn't help buy wonder for some reason if it happened after running the card and if so, did they reverse the charge. Just a random morbid thought...

wait, he rolled the car over by leaning out one side? how is that even possible? like, even if the dude was 500 lbs or more i have a hard time imagining that flipping a car

Sounds like he didn't put it in park, the car rolled forward and he got crushed to death between the car door and the wall somehow.
