Just got around to putting together a Freeplay CM3 with a BoxyPixel aluminum shell and going on a GBA games kick.

Pretty sure I'll have buff pinkies if I play this thing too much though.

Starting with Metroid Zero Mission, which aside from maybe an hour or 2 on Prime will be my first go at the Metroid series.

Looks cool!

Metroid Fusion, Sonic Advance, Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town, Golden Sun come to mind. And Final Fantasy IV, V, VI and the Mario Bros 3/World/Yoshi's Island ports if you haven't played them on other systems!

Sounds like I should be set for the next year or so!

Might go with Golden Sun, Minish Cap, or Aria of Sorrow after finishing up Zero Mission. Any of those 3 significantly shorter than the others?
edit: Or possibly MMBN1 if it's almost demo levels of short!

I've also never really played much of the classic Marios aside from the first few levels of each, may finally try to give those a full playthrough.
I'm awful at classic Mario, so hooray for savestates.

oops meant to add more

River City Ransom EX
Bomberman Tournament (Zelda style Bomberman game)
Rebelstar: Tactical Command (basically an XCOM game, created by XCOM creator Julian Gollop)
Riviera: The Promised Land
Yggdra Union: We'll Never Fight Alone

pretty much everything else listed in other posts so far is pretty good but I'm going to second Double Dragon Advance because I think it's easy to overlook, but it's one of the best beat em ups of its time.

As much as I like Yggdra Union, it'd definitely better to skip the GBA version in favor of the PSP version if it's available to you.

Anyway, Zone of the Enders: The Fist of Mars. Maybe the Super Robot Wars games.

Also I've been playing Pokemon Pinball Ruby and Sapphire recently. Fun, although I can't help but think it feels a little bit too easy.

for some weird, obscure options that weren't released outside of japan
Hatena Satena - basically Picross + minesweeper (when you fill in a square, it tells you how many adjacent squares have the same color). The UI is kind of a clusterfuck though and there's no translation patch.
Guru Logic Champ - basically the same thing as the DSiware game Snapdots. (you have to add/take away blocks to fill in specific blank spots in the pattern. the blocks travel in a straight line until they hit something, so you have to rotate the board and often place them in a certain order)

Let's see, so far we have:

-Advance Wars
-Astro Boy
-Banjo-Kazooie
-Bomberman Tournament (Always been a sucker for bomberman games that don't play like bomberman games)
-BRITNEY'S DANCE BEAT
-Castlevania CotM / HoD / AoS (Played and loved these back when)
-Double Dragon Advance
-DBZ: Legacy of Goku 2+3 (Played the first and loved it as a kid even though it seemed a bit rough, heard 2 and 3 are quite a bit better)
-FF IV, V, VI
-FFTA ( This one got me through a lot of boring high school classes but I don't think I ever finished it.)
-Fire Emblem / Sacred Stones
-Golden Suns (Loved the first one as a kid and I think it was the first GBA game I played. The battle intro blew my mind.)
-Guru Logic Champ
-Hamtaro!
-Hatena Satena
-Harvest Moon
-Legend of Zelda Minish Cap (High on the list of ones to get to.)
-Magical Vacation
-Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
-Mario Advance 1-3
-MMBN 1,2,3,5,6
-MMZ 1-4
-Monster Rander Advance 2
-Mother 3
-Metroid Zero + Fusion
-Ninja Five-O
-Pokemon Emerald / Pinball (Always a sucker for pinball on handheld consoles.)
-Rebelstar: Tactical Command
-Rhythm Tengoku
-River City Ransom EX
-Riviera
-Robotech: The Macross Saga (Never watched robotech but really enjoyed the Gamecube game)
-Sonic Advance
-Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis
-WarioWare Microgames (+Twisted if I get a gyroscrope for the pi!)
-Yggdra Union
-Zone of Enders (Had no idea there was a GBA game)

Loading everything onto the system! (Modern technology is the best.)

Are you actually collecting cartridges?

I try to grab carts/cib for some of the games if they end up a favorite (ex Jet Grind Radio! ), but mostly going with emulation.
This thing is a Raspberry pi inside, not sure where my actual GBA and old games are.

Feel free to add Advance Wars 2 and the other Sonic Advance games to that list (if you liked the first ones I guess).

You can also add Kirby & the Amazing Mirror, F-Zero: Maximum Velocity, Kuru Kuru Kururin, Drill Dozer and Mario vs Donkey Kong as some cool games.

Anyway if you really do decide to play Hatena Satena, I should probably offer some advice since I finished all the content not too long ago (or so I think).

this site is helpful for showing how to navigate the main menu (since it's pretty unconventional)
http://wiki.selectbutton.net/game:hatena_satena
There's also three sets of unlockable bonus puzzles accessed from the title screen. (well, I've only found three sets. It would make sense for there to be a fourth, but then the icon with that would obscure the copyright information so I'm leaning towards there not being a fourth one for now)

A button fills in colors.
B button cycles through the colors.
L button zooms out.
R button cycles through the different palettes. The first one is the color palette obviously. The second is for marking squares you're uncertain about/don't want to fill in as well as erasing them. The third lets you toggle on or off displaying the number clues (I really wish that I had found out about that sooner, since at first I was manually moving the cursor over each square in the puzzle one at a time to see the clues >_>;)

The puzzles are intended to be solved in a certain logical sequence kind of like how Jupiter Picross games are set up. Unlike Jupiter games, it actually enforces solving it in order though. If you try to guess or skip ahead by filling in squares you already know about from past attempts, the screen will flash red and an X will be displayed by the puzzle in the menu. To unlock the last two or so sets of puzzles you have to finish all the other puzzles without guessing (or making a mistake I assume). This is actually rather frustrating to do on some of the later puzzles (well, without save states. I gave up and used save states on at least a few instead of redoing like a half hour or so of work each time I got stuck and made a guess) since it can seem a bit arbitrary at times.

There's three slight variations of the rules (which might also be combined in some puzzles). The first is clues taking into account all 8 surrounding cells, instead of just the four orthogonal squares. (this is the most logical expansion on the game's concept, so naturally this feels like it's the one they decided to use the least.) The second is having you leave a number of squares blank until you finish the puzzle. This isn't too bad, it's just one of those things that it would have been nice if I figured out that you can mark squares you don't want to fill in sooner. The last is when not all the number clues for rows/columns fit on screen since there are too many different colors in one row so you have to fill in all of the squares of a color in a row/column so there's room for another clue to appear. This one pissed me off at times and is a big part of the reason trying to solve the last few puzzles without "guessing" is frustrating. At least it will show a flashing dot by any row/column that has blank spaces or has any offscreen clues.

Each character's story mode has 3 sets of 6 puzzles, as well as 5 bonus puzzles (these give you "gifts" that change the character's animations. though you may have to repeat playing through each character's story mode 2-3 times to unlock them all.) and a final puzzle for them that only shows up in the replay menu after you finish their story mode (the one that you go into the bottom rocket option to get to, as mentioned on that page earlier).
