tbh, Sun was the game that made me question if I still enjoyed the games. I loved the Pokemon in the game, but my god the amount of literal barricades drove me nuts. I land on an island, and want to explore it. "Sorry, the road is out". Then Sword/Shield nearly made me bring the game back to the store with the whole "Interesting things are happening somewhere, but you don't need to worry about that, just focus on your badges".

I'll try Arceus once it comes out, but I don't have much faith in it. It will probably be decent the first playthrough, but nothing to keep me attached.

I'm playing through Sword. It will likely be my last Poke'mon game.

I may revisit some of the older games but Poke'mon doesn't do it for me anymore.

Yeah... about that... The first pokemon was released in 1998, I was 13 at the time. It's something I grew up with. And case in point by your logic the only game genre we should be playing are either horror games or Doom/Wolfenstein because of their focus towards adults.

All those kids that were playing those games grew up. This isn't 20 years ago when playing video games and watching anime was considered somewhat taboo.

90 percent of games out there are focused towards "children", technically anything that doesn't have swearing, mature content or blood/guts counts as a "children's" game. I'd rather enjoy Mario Kart with my friends and family than complain all the time that "I can't play this, its a children's game".

Still playing, albeit it's one of the mobile games (Pokemon Masters) instead of a main entry.

I played every gen up to 4, then I got SwSh. I would say that I stopped playing at 4, but mostly just because my DS broke after that and I never got a 3DS.

Though admittedly, Platinum was probably my least favourite Pokemon game at the time. Even considering how slow DP are, Platinum was still an insufferable slog compared to the breezy pace of gen 3.

With that being said though, I'm looking forward to the remakes. It's sat for long enough to be nostalgic, and I think the pace is going to be significantly improved.

Pokmon is literally for children, not adults.

Lets break down Pokemon shall we? I'll use Pokemon Red as an example.

You capture innocent creatures and force them to do your bidding against other creatures. There is a group of thieves called Team Rocket that go around making everyone's lives miserable. They hold multiple people hostage and at least in the anime version literally steal other Pokemon from trainers.

Multiple times they have tried to "end the world" by capturing a god pokemon.

"Children's game".

And if for some reason you still want to talk about it, here's a direct quote from one of the directors of Pokemon Junichi Masuda.

Look, while I think Pokemon is aimed at a younger audience, it has wider appeal than just a child audience. It's just as much an all-ages game as Mario Kart - adults can enjoy the gameplay and invest in the mechanics, but the skill ceiling is low enough that kids can enjoy them too and the game is produced in a way to specifically appeal to children.

I guess 7 but 5 were the last ones I felt like I cared about. Skipped 3, 4, and 6

i played Pokmon Sword when it came out. at the same time i had bought my Switch.

before that, i havent played a Pokmon game since the GBA days...

I can't really say I've stopped. I still haven't finished sword though just because I really don't like it.

Getting the gen 4 remake at the end of the year.

6 is where i stopped. I realized it was way too easy (it had that ridiculous experience share) and the game was just boring, I'd had enough. I think 5 was the last great generation.

The Pokemon games rarely offered that much in the way of difficulty, although the mechanics sometimes improved in later games which made some fights more than just leveling.

XY is the last one I played proper. I think I made it to the first town in Sun/Moon because concluding that this isn't my thing anymore.

But I've been sporadic since gen 3. Didn't play Diamond and Pearl or Black and White (or 2). I plan to get Brilliant Diamond. Haven't had a pokemon main series game on a tv console since playing Gold on the GameCube with the gameboy player attachment. I think generally I'm at a point in my life where I'll skip a generation or two of pokemon and then feel a desire to go back and play the next one.

Like if you didn't play Pokemon when you were a kid, that's fine, but saying "I'm not a child" is a silly answer when people - in this thread and otherwise - started playing as children and grew out of it as they got older. I don't think I've seen someone say "I started playing Pokemon when I was 30 and I haven't looked back". I was 5 when I played Pokemon Yellow, and I stopped when I was a teenager.

Let me guess, you never watched cartoons either because you're not a child.

Gen 7 the Vanilla SM was awful and the sequel I knew was going to be the same so I just stopped there.

I had enough if the fans and the series stagnation and moved on.

Sun/moon. They were not my cup of tea but still alright I suppose, x/y was alright. Black2/white2 was the last truly excellent game in the series. I have never once wanted to even touch sword/shield.

It's just so... Nothing. Like, almost nothing happens in it. It's like a leisurely stroll with easy battles. Nothing really happens. X/Y at least did some "interesting" things with its story still having some grandiose to it. Sun/moon legit felt like an expansion pack to X/Y

yeah x/y and the ruby sapphire remakes id say were the last good main Pokmon games.

sun moon was just a giant snooze fest. Didnt even give a shit about the story. Havent played sword and shield though but I assumed it was as bad as sun and moon

Currently back and forth sporadically with Heartgold and Omega Ruby. The former is way more interesting despite the primitive 2.5D graphics.

If a friend hadn't gave me OR, I probably wouldn't have been playing Pokemon at all and stopped right at Gen 3. No interest in anything beyond gen 4.

I keep buying them in the hopes that they rekindle my love for the series, but I end up stopping after 20-30 hours. The last one I fully beat was Platinum. I bought into B/W, S/M, and S/S, but never their "ugraded" versions (B/W2, US/UM).

I enjoyed Sun and Moon, but disliked how easy it was. I unironically liked Hau as a character too, but everyone in the game was just so damn helpful it put me off. I imagine sword sword s shield was similar so I skipped it. I might try Arceus Legeneds

I still play, though I did take a long hiatus after gen 3 until SwSh as far as the main games/spinoff go since I didn't have interest in getting a DS. Though I still played some fan made games in that time since some could actually be challenging.

I played 1, 2, 3, 4, skipped 5, 6, 7, and started playing again at gen 8.
