Yeah I have to agree here. By this point in the story Light was so far gone, he felt nothing when his father dies.

I would say that it's actually the last point BEFORE Light is too far gone. Just before this, Light refused to write his sister's name in the notebook even though that was basically the last chance he had to keep the other Death Note and prevent an enormous amount of uncertainty and chaos.

That makes sense to me. Light's familiar with Sakura TV and the people in charge of it. And Sakura wouldn't have a problem flying to America given how much Kira is boosting their channel.

Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention but it happened so close to the president getting a call from Kira to actively shut down Near's unit that I thought that was the president's response, like he had his aides call in a tabloid and make it out to be a mob action.

The alternative, that Light himself sent directions to the same TV station that the Japanese police and Light's L taskforce have directly cooperated with and ordered before, might actually be stupider. Because that casts even more suspicion on Light.

That's almost certainly how it happened though. There's one point where Light is angry that Demegawa is acting on his own, indicating he'd been giving him instructions before. Upcoming spoilers: He also immediately seeks to replace him as "the Voice of Kira" which indicates this is a position Light finds important, not just something Demegawa made up that he took advantage of.

Light and Misa aren't under the hardcore suspicion they once were. It wouldn't be at all difficult to discretely get a message to Demegawa.

I wouldn't use the word "better" but generally speaking everything in part 2 was more fleshed out/explained in the manga.

I'd say they both have opposite problems. The manga is too long and decompressed and runs out of steam, and the anime overcorrected and just blazed through the content instead.

I really disliked that when I first watched, but I've come around to it making sense. Light and Near essentially did the same thing: they watched a bunch of Kira media and then figured out who the best candidate for a third Kira would be. It definitely could have been portrayed better because Near just kinda looks like he watches one interview and decides, but I think there's a few seconds where it shows a shitload of tapes. They just don't emphasize that he's watched hours of footage the way they should have.

Well I finished the anime again. I remember the last episode being SOOOOOOOO tense the first time I watched. As well as Mikami's countdown. I don't know if anything has ever made me as thrilled as that. Maybe Jojolion 96 or 107.

I honestly don't understand what the significance of Mikami writing Takada's suicide in his note means still. Also I prefer the manga ending from what I know of it: Ryuk showing Light's name written down. I think that's way more poetic. I used to like Matsuda shooting light because it seemed redeeming to me but this time watching is seemed more unhinged and another indication that he never belonged in the task force.

I'm looking at the colored chapters online and they're really charming. The manga artstyle is great, I like the soft faces. Light looks like such a dork and it's cute. The anime is more angular.

Death Note has a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes lol. Checks out

Mikami had an obsessive compulsive routine. He always went to the bank, the gym, etc on the same days of the week at the same time. When Takada called him, he realized she had to be killed to keep Kira safe, so he broke his routine and went to the bank for the second day in a row to write her name down. Until this break in his routine, Near didn't know that Mikami had hidden his real Note in the bank and left a fake for Near to find.

If Mello hadn't kidnapped Takada, Mikami would have written everyone's name down in the real Death Note, they'd have died, and Light would have won.
