serious question.

People like to mock Batman for being in the JL but at least he has crazy genius level intellect and is the Tony Stark on the DC universe.

Meanwhile what does Black Widow offer? Everytime I watch that first Avengers movie scene where they do a circling camera shot of all the superheroes, I cant help but laugh when I see Black Widow. Here you have a supersoldier, a tech supreme, a giant green hulk, an expert marksmen aaaaaand this woman holding a glock pistol.

You never read the comics. She was a Russian spy who defected to SHIELD. SHIELD and Nick Fury often directed missions for the Avengers so she became a liason between the two.

It was the 1970's and the character gave them a James Bondish-spy angle, a Russian angle, a Cold War angle and a SHIELD link.

It still doesn't make sense, especially considering she herself turned against SHIELD during Civil War lmao.

Also if you wanna talk about comics, the original Nick Fury was an elite soldier himself. He might as well serve the very liaison and join the Avengers

The Civil Wars was how many decades later?

And Nick Fury was too old in the 1970's.

Take the L and this thread is bait.

To be fair the OP. BW should not be on the front lines. She should be working behind the line. Like she did in Iron Man 2 . Sneaking around and stuff, she should not be in the middle of the fight with aliens. Hawkeye... might should be with her too.

I'd agree with this. Having somebody like her on the team is worthwhile because she has a skillet that the others don't. However, she shouldn't be rushing into fights alongside the avengers as a matter of course.

Thinking back - for those seriously interested - that was a time when spy novels and movies were a big deal.

SHIELD was a big deal in comics. Over the years, they had 5 series and many spin offs.

Black Widow was the link to the spy world. I don't read comics anymore, but at the time, Black Widow was the link to the spy world. SHIELD and Nick Fury were successful. They wanted the Avengers to be more successful. Black Widow was the link. See my post 4.

Peak Cold War. Peak Vietnam. Marvel was run by pro-civil rights and anti-Vietnam types. They needed a character that was able to tap into the spy world stuff without losing their (Marvel's) soul.

At the time Captain America's political baggage from 1940's comics was played down. He was a "Dudley Do Right" guy, often portrayed as politically nave.

Iron Man was portrayed as an Elon Musk type - outside of his own comic book - potentially brilliant, but ultimately suspect and thus unreliable.

What other Avenger to deal with SHEILD the top international spy agency on international, global and 'multiverse' problems? Hulk? Thor?

Wonderman did some of that but even some hardcore comics fans don't remember him.

Black Widow was the chief spy liaison and diplomat for the Avengers. When Black Panther took over for Captain America as head of the Avengers, he still worked with Black Widow when dealing with SHEILD because she was one of them.. Black Panther as a head of state was still generally respected by Nick Fury though, and did a lot himself.

Could have just created a thread saying "all I know about the MCU, I learned watching movies, and comedy central".

MCU is far, far from the biggest thing in the world, but at least know something about which you're talking about. "Hot takes" are no substitute for knowledge. That's how Trump won.

From the MCU she's there for a lot of reasons but the most important part was to be the eyes and ears for Fury.

For the movies: so fury could be there, without being there kinda thing. Shes his left hand, where as Hill would be his right hand. In the first movie it was that she was just as good at combat as Cap, and she had her "Widows Bite" (her gauntlets taze enemies) which she is shown using in the fight.

Comics: all the stuff said previously, but she also had a form of the super solider serum. I believe its implied in the movies that the Red Room did give her experimental treatments that may have done something similar, but I still havent watched Black Widow all the way through to confirm that.

I don't get it either. Her Abilitys( or lack there of) aside her skill set honestly isnt very well suited for front line combat at all.

And should be assisting the team from the shadow's ie, doing covert crap like infiltrating and or finding hydra, or A.I.M hold outs.
