Duck them, seriously.

I'm sure video game companies are thrilled that their product is flying off the shelves, but is has to hurt them in the end right?

They don't like scalpers either. Nobody likes scalpers. I'm not even sure their families like them.

If I were them I would make everyone sign a contract that says they can't sell it for a profit.

Thats true. Though, cant it hurt them earlier if people arent buying the games because nobody has the system?

Actually, scalpers can hurt the console companies, since spending extra on the console limits people on how many games they can buy. The attach rate is very important.

There were several PS5s in stock at a local Shoppers Drug Mart the other day but I didn't buy one to sell online for a profit because I like being able to look at myself in the mirror.

There is nothing at all morally wrong about buying a popular item at the regular MSRP price that anyone else can pay, and selling it privately for more money when the item is in high demand

Manufacturers don't even like them. The PS5 attach rate was terrible at launch because they all just went to scalpers. Can't sell games if nobody is playing the system.

What are you talking about? Nintendo loves 'em

Release something hot in limited numbers, get them into the hands of scalpers then flood the market with them

Nintendo sells that item to the scalper, popularity of that item rises with everyone willing to pay the inflated price and then Nintendo easily sells the next batch

There's a difference between selling something for a few extra dollars and selling it for $1000 over MSRP.

Right. Theyre selling for market price. They dont even need to try to scalp, start an auction and people will bid it up. Just toys anyways.

I don't necessarily agree. They got screwed by this strategy a few times. The NES classic was a good example. People were obssessed with it in the first run, but no one could buy it and by the time the second wave came out the hype for it was dead and no one could give a crap about it. I ended up getting the classic for $40 in box with an extra controller. I feel like if they just produced the right amount to begin with, they would've made more money. 3D All-stars is a good example of this. While it theoretically was "limited" they produced enough units that nearly everyone could buy it and they ended up selling millions of units of that game.
