It's funny. When I wrote my Spirits Origin Guide, before I could get it finished, someone made a website called "Smash Ultimate Spirits" meant for documenting the Spirits and their origins, using prose as if the "trophy" function were back like from the old games. I figured since my guide was more straight informative and less prosaic, that the two resources would stand up on their own merits as long as we both kept updating.

I hadn't looked at the site in some time, but lo, I looked today and found out they hadn't updated the list since the end of 2019. No Byleth, no Min-Min, and so on.

How lame for them.

The reason the project started because I'm looking at Spirits like Mappo and Alessandro Inghazi and Takt and I'm like who the hell are these characters. Not only that, but what kind of game did they come from.

I was just playing some NES (Dr. Mario and Mario Bros 3) and when it started acting up I turned it off. My daughter was watching and absolutely lost her shit so I asked if she wanted to play it because I was done and she said no, you need to play it.

This is probably silly, but I don't watch the Olympics because low-key I am still envious. I used to be a big runner when I was in high school but plans didn't work out the way I wanted them to. Even though I was by no means anywhere near qualifying for states, let alone the Olympics.

Considering getting Smash, I'm afraid it will ruin my controller and my hands.

Like, I already have traditional fighting games down pat, and if I get into Smash, I'll really get into it, and I'll practice until it's no fun to play against me anymore.

But will this fuck my hands up? Are there characters where I don't need to go crazy on the inputs, like Ryu/Ken/Terry?

95% of the roster is different from them, so I wouldn't worry about fucking up your hands. (Unless you go super pro, in which case all characters become incredibly complex with inputs lol)

But traditionally Smash is more about reading and chasing your opponent, rather than cramming 50+ inputs into a 90 frame span lol.

Watching some ladies weightlifting now. It's pretty neat! (I'm a sucker for buff girls lol)

So far highlight was definitely the debut of BMX freestyle. I used to follow the X Games but fell off of it a few years back. Seeing the kind of crazy shit they can do flying around in the air is incredible.

I was actually hoping the characters I listed would be considered less input-intensive, since I'm already familiar with those movement and can do them in my sleep.

I should clarify: I don't care about complexity, I care about inputs-per-second. I recall high end melee had input rates twice that of traditional fighting games.

both characters are respectably pretty solid

meta hasn't really changed that much. zss dropped a bit (tough a lot of people overstate it a bit) and sephiroth and mythra are top tiers and minmin is at the top of high-tier and has very polarizing matchups
people are mastering diddy more and discovering how dumb strong he is, and wolf is being talked about as a top 5 character again
