I would say A & B are Donkey's because they have the big ear thing going on and C & D are Mules. A even looks like it is doing that annoying donkey call that they love to do.

Yeah, I feel like everyone gets it backwards. The mule is a hybrid between a donkey and a horse and a donkey is it's own thing. A & B are definitely donkeys, D was a little more ambiguous (at least to me), but there was no option for A, B & D as donkeys, so this poll is total fail.

A mule is a cross between between a jack and a mare. The cross between a jenny and a stallion is called a hinny.


On the left is a mule, a hinny is on the right.

Hinnies are usually smaller than mules, and they have a more horse-like head with shorter ears and a thicker mane. Hinnies are rarer than mules because jennies and stallions are pickier about their mates than jacks or mares. Their temperament is more donkey-like than mules because hinnies are raised by a jenny mother.

We had both donkeys and a mule and I had a hard time. Our mule was smaller than others because his mother was a pony. He whinnied like a horse instead of braying. (That was the cutest thing ever.) He was 38 years old when he died.
