Around here, they require road work has to be done at night for various reasons, not the least of which is they don't want their workers collapsing from heat exhaustion. Having worked in a machine shop with no A/C during college, all I can say is "Drinking a glass of water every half hour and not peeing all day".

Hydration is important. Used to work concrete doing curb and gutter and driveways and shit. You sorta get acclimated to it honestly. But yeah, water and shade breaks are very important.

I typically only wear goggles if Im burning through steel with an oxy-acetylene torch. And yes I have many large wrenches.

its mostly due to millennials being raised with the mindset that construction should be looked down upon and you can only achieve success by going to college. Fast forward 20 years and college level career market is saturated and there is a huge gap in skilled trades. Construction jobs will always be needed and with the gap it created a huge demand thus the good pay.

and Im not trying to shit on people who went to college. I did that myself and never found a career, I was a pizza delivery boy with a BS. Got into the skilled trades in my 30s and its the best decision of my life, only wish I had gotten in sooner

It really isnt all that common anymore, used to happen all the time from the stories the guys that have been around tell. Theres a ton of potheads though, I dont smoke anymore but I was surprised that a lot of job sites dont even test for it. Im currently working at Fort Meade and Ive never taken a drug test there.
